Great diy video! Very simple and straight. I just bought a 07 honda pilot with fold down seats, and really want to make black out covers like this. I love my car too much to use velcro or any other hardware that would compromise the appearance of the body. Thanks for the video man

Perfect! What about duct tape around the edges, would that give more durability? I needed this while camping last night. 18 when I woke up, with more frost inside than out! Must have been a great trout stream down the road, more traffic than I liked at night. Going to Alaska next summer. I'll need this.
@campingina4wd4 жыл бұрын
Yes, duct tape would add durability. I would certainly use reflectix in cold temperatures to help create an insulation barrier for the windows. Alaska will be a great adventure. Thank you for commenting!

This is awesome. Was looking into doing this for camping in the car when cold. I just set up a bed platform, instead of using ground tent. This should help out a lot with retaining heat inside the vehicle, right?
@campingina4wd3 жыл бұрын
@Ronnie Miller Reflectix is a thin reflective barrier that can help keep some heat in and some cold out. For cold temps insulated window covers with a higher R value would help keep more heat in. Thank you for your comment!

I love the eye bolt mod on the coat hanger hooks! Any special pieces I need to accomplish this on my 4runner? Thanks!

Those are FJ Cruiser Cargo Area D-Rings OEM. I used the existing coat hanger bolts. That's all you need. Thank you for your comment.

Recently did this for the windshield of my Lexus ls460 and I don’t feel a difference if not it gets worse.. According to their instructions your supposed to allow a gap for maximum reflection between the reflectix and the windshields but even then it still gets really hot here where I live in a daily temperature of 90-100•

YESTERDAY i PURCHASED MY 203 Ford Explorer . I'm ready now with your help to start this inexpensive way ! I'm less fearful with your idea. question? Can I add some fabric on it just for a homey look for will the weight affect it from holding ??? Age 67 Can't wait to start !!!
@campingina4wd4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can add fabric. Cut the reflectix a bit larger so it fits firmly into the window. It is easier to trim a little rather than cutting a piece too small and starting over. You can add velcro or tape if needed. Easy to make and very useful. Enjoy your Ford Explorer! I wish you the best with your new adventures. Thank you for subscribing.

If you put a 5% tint on the back windows you will still be legal and know body can see the reflectix.

Hi, great video, gonna makes these :) Question, how is condensation going with these? Is there damp between your window and the covers? because you can't crack a window at the same time right? I wonder how other people do this during winter time..... Hope you can help me.
@campingina4wd4 жыл бұрын
@roosje nagel - Condensation can be an issue during winter time if you don't crack the windows. I use the reflectix and crack the windows. I fold the top edge of the relectix inside a bit and use a few plastic clips. That lets fresh air flow and reduces condensation. Hope this helps. Thank you for your comment!

This may be a dumb question, but did you trace the window on the inside or the outside of the vehicle? I’m trying to do it from the inside but it’s pretty difficult. I haven’t tried with the blue tape yet. Thank you very much for you idea and video!

Do you still use these? How has the spray paint held up? Any flaking? Thanks!
@campingina4wd Жыл бұрын
No, I don't use these anymore. I used them for the first year or two when I first started 4Runner camping. The spray paint started to wear off in spots after first year camping. They were an affordable solution the first year. Today, I would buy the Weather Tech window covers. Thank you.

what to do to have some ventilation at night?
@alexmuldrow41783 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you still need this question answered, but the idea is that if you have rain guards for your car, you can cut the top off of the reflectix and crack the window at night to ventilate. The trouble is then the cover will not wedge itself into the door anymore, so you will have to either glue cardboard to the back to make it stiff enough to stay in place, or find rare earth magnets at a place like OfficeMax and glue roughly 4 or 5 into each individual cover along the edges. Hope this helps.
