Thanks for the video. I used this information to solve the same problem. But I managed it much easier and without a magnet, because I just didn't have a magnet on Sunday, I had planned to buy it the next day. My simple method was to inject compressed air into the glow plug bore and the glow plug's heating element flew out the nozzle bore.

Thanks so much for posting this video. Not only did it give me the confidence if it did snap off, but was a real life saver when it did. It does take a lot of tries, but when you finally pull it up, relief. Compressed air from a fish tank air hose and an air bed pump for me appeared to work. Thanks again.

Looked at your video and thought I’ll give this a try ( Citroen Dispatch 1.6hdi ) I found that only the tip of the glow plug is magnetic enough to be picked up. Before you try this make sure the tips of the glow plugs are magnetic by testing a removed one. Tried and tried to get a connection just about to give up then bingo it worked. Thanks a lot for this tip. Hope I never have to use it again.😄

Sori Bud, I`m a bit late on this video, but thank you very much for this tip..`I'm sure to save this video... My question is this this - when you unscrew them, is this the point where they normally breaks.. Or have you or maybe anyone else found that they break off anywhere else. ??

Hi Wizard! I have a 2009 FORD C-MAX 1.6 TDCi 110CV. It seems very similar (if not identical) to your engine. What is the diameter of your magnet? I have just bought a magnet with 7mm diameter. Can I fish like you? Additionally I'm wondering if the seat of the glowplug in the engine head is conical. Since it is so easy to break the glow plug I'd say it would reasonable to eliminate the risk the fragment would fall inside the cylinder. Are they?

I have done it on a VW Crafter because it was ceramic and I had no choice - I would say I drill and pull them out - I have done loads of them - again as a last resort I would push them in - but it would be easy to nearl the hollow end and get it stuck if you were in experienced - I would at the very least have a guide …

been hitting the tip but doesn't seem to move at all. I have already gotten the injector out, got an endoscope and magnet ready but that's as far as I've got. any suggestions? do you have to hit it really hard? the glows plugs are in the back of the engine so hard to get to!

Hi, i tried this on Ford s Max but could not get the broken tip, i have pushed it and it has fallen but the magnet can not get it. I do not have access to compresser do you have any idea that can help me? What will happen if i try to drive the car putting the new glow plug with out removing the broken tip.?

Only iron, nickel and cobalt is magnetic. (Some rare earth metals but those are unlikely to be used). Some glowplugs might not have any iron or nickel in it's composition so wouldn't be magnetic. If I remember right, some are ceramic doped with magnesium oxide. Personally, I would test what material by ensuring the tiny bit that remains is magnetic before knocking through... otherwise you are in a world of pain... as don't quote me on this... might be possible to remove the broken tip by running the engine... compression inside cylinder might be enough to "shoot" it out.
@Maksimov13372 жыл бұрын
In fairness some are dipped ceramic not steel jacketed, but it is rare to find them! I generally agree with you that the most common type are steel jacketed but non-magnetic or hardly magnetic ones exist

Thanks for this tip, I used a flexible magnet tool but had little joy but then bought a telescopic magnetic pick up tool from Yorkshire trading for £1 I had to sand the end slightly to get it to fit, after many goes and compressed air I eventually retrieved the tip. I found the tip is not that magnetic and you have to connect on the end itself which is more magnetic. You cannot feel the tip when it attaches to the magnet so you are fishing blind.
