DIY Restore Turntable Dustcover

I would strongly recommend to open the dustcover and then lift it. Liften it when its is closed can crack the dustcover because of the springs being under tension.

Hi, my dustcover is cracked so I was planning to fix it first with acrylic glue and then applying this method. Would it work (like would the glued cracks be invisible after this)? It is a Sony HMK70 so unfortunately I can't find a dustcover to replace it

My only concern is that the glue might not be able to take the friction from the sanding, buffing, and polishing. If you are going to glue, clamp it up, and let it cure for a couple of days. After it hardens, do my process on all the parts, but try not to put too much pressure on the glued area. I actually think you might want to try dry sanding the glued area very gently. Then lightly get some compound to buff it out. I feel your pain, it is difficult to find a replacement dustcover for most turntables. I usually keep dustcovers from parts turntables just to be on the safe side of finding a functional one. Thanks for watching!

is it completely necessary to leave them overnight to soak? or could I just do it for like an hour?

I try to leave them soaking for 24 hours so that the sandpaper is gentle on the surface I am going to use it on. If it doesn't soak, you risk gauging your surface. If after an hour you feel that the paper is soft enough, go for it. I leave it overnight because its better to be safe than sorry. Thanks for watching my video!

I have an 80s turntable and the cover is not particularly scratched but is kinda foggy. Do you think this method will help?

I can't say for sure, because you have to take in consideration the material that you are trying to polish. More often that not, this will work on acrylic dustcovers and remove the cloudiness from the surface. Try my method at your own risk! Thanks for watching
