The paint tray in the nest box is a great idea! Thanks for sharing. I use paint trays as bird baths for my chickens - they work great for that, too.

Wait I like the net flooring. It does not hurt their feet? Does it stay open during winter? Does it not cause temperature to drop for the chicken??? I love the idea now that I spotted it ! No more cleaning! Worst case pick a shovel and shovel down the hen !!
@FlatGapFarm10 күн бұрын
@@ErossaanBooming thanks for watching and no it does not hurt their feet. the bottom stays open during the winter but we enclose the sides. The chickens are fine in cold temperatures, they huddle together when nesting at night. Chickens stay warm as long as you block the wind and rain. Hope this helps answer your questions.

Unfortunately since we retrofitted the trays the ChickShaw was built with no room to slide the nesting boxes forward. In the future that’s the plan!

I know that this video is from three months ago. We had the same problem with the chickens eating eggs. We actually purchased the best nest, rollaway nesting box for 250. Then our girls got smart. The ones that were eating the eggs, were laying the eggs on the ground, while everybody else was laying in the nesting box. I haven’t watched any of your other videos because I saw this one, but did you find this happening over the last three months?
@FlatGapFarm2 ай бұрын
We have not experienced that with ours. We do have a lot of pullets that are just now starting to lay then the hurricane hit. Some laid outside because the coop got damaged so we are retraining them. Feel free to watch our new videos. We appreciate your support

Is the side/bottom cut out of the nesting box?
@FlatGapFarm2 ай бұрын
@@leabentley2597 we cut one side of the crate and just laid on its side so then it makes 2 openings. The original opening and a cut out side. Hope this helps!
