Canvas would be a great option. Maybe just a pair of old carhart pants, plenty of usable fabric there. I would love to see the finished project.

I just make things out of what I have. I’m gonna make something similar out of pleather, cotton and normal buttons. I might have to add a loop to put the button through but oh well! It will still work.

Excellent project! I can see Boy Scouts making and using this for hikes in areas where they are allowed to pick up items. They could also start out on a hike with items in the bag, then close up the bag when empty.

Wonderfulwork! What kind of marker are you using and how do you erase it if need be?

Thank you, I am using a Tandy leather pen and I can erase it with a standard pencil erasure. The eraser can discolor the leather so it is best to limit the mistakes as much as possible. But during use over time the marks will wear off on their own.

Figure out what you want to make first. Get the right leather and only the basic tools you need. Add tools as you add experience. Before you know it you will be able to make anything you want. KZbin is a good resource.

The real advantage to using his patterns is learning how to make your own. He also has a video for each pattern with detailed assembly instructions. All around that is the best that we have found.

For real it would but we sew everything leather by hand. Not sure we will ever get a machine.
