Thank you all for your kind suggestions about adding a groove for the plates. 😊💕 Unfortunately working with a router is not as easy as it sounds and our plate rack is already assembled so it’s not going to be a feasible solution for us in this instance (our router is really heavy duty and it would probably cause more harm than good). We love that you all care so much - y’all are so great to us. 🥰🥰🥰

Wow! That is really beautiful. My dad(was a carpenter) used square dowels & attached them to the top of each shelf about 1/2" in, that also kept the plates sliding forward. Very nice work!

The shelves are suppose to have a groove which the plate drops about 1/4 inch into to prevent sliding. That's what you're missing honey. On a good note, it looks fantastic! You and your husband are very skilled. Love watching your videos.

Thanks so much! We were following the original piece and it didn’t have grooves so we figured the dowels would hold them up. 🤷🏻‍♀️🥴 One of those live and learn experiences I guess 😂.

If you have a router, you can cut a space in each flat section where the plate would rest. This indent will keep the plate from slipping. Great project and excellent savings!

Great job Yami. Usually there is a groove in the shelf for the plates to sit in. This keeps them from sliding off. Love all ur VLOGS :-)

I love how this turned out. Has a really country farmhouse look to it. I have a treasured piece made by dad which was a copy of one that a family friend who lived on a farm had in their kitchen (mine holds cups and saucers). 😊

You need a plate gutter, or whatever it’s called, for the plates to set in. Then they will stay put. Love you plate shelf! 😊❤️🙏

I love your husband's shirt. Why would we laugh? You guys did a great job. I love the plates with the blue pattern also. One thing I thought of was usuallly there is a grove in the shelf right in front of where the plate sits, but I'm sure the dowel worked great too.

You could add a groove to the bottom of the boards and the plates could sit in those. Simply done with a router. But I love this piece!!!

I love it!! You may want to put a little groove on the bottom of the shelves so you can put the plates in and they won't move.

Wow! I love this! I think adding the second towel is exactly the right thing to do. I've seen plate rails that have a groove cut in them to rest the plates in. I think an extra dowel will do the same thing and will be sturdier. Thank you for sharing! Blessings all!!!!

Often times plate racks has a horizontal sawn 1/4" line that corresponds with where plates would be placed that secures them from sliding. Not even noticed as its inset into the bottom planks.

i had to look up the shop on etsy. PART of the reason their prices are high is the free shipping. free is never free and shipping those big, heavy pieces is really expensive. however, that said, it ain't THAT expensive. lol. bravo to them for finding a market that is willing to bear their price. bravo to you for making it affordable! looks fairly easy and definitely not expensive.

@@TheLatinaNextDoor there is a market for every price point and there are people with more money than ability to craft. lol. but i'm guessing they are doing it for a living rather than a hobby. i was a soap maker for 21 years and sold at craft shows. my 5 oz bars went for $7.50. i've seen ads where tom ford (high end make up artist/brand) selling an 8 oz bar for $35. there was nothing any more special about that brands bars than mine other than the name on the label. but you know it sold to tom ford loyalists.

Yes, that’s what we plan on doing. Making a groove would be too difficult at this point because it’s already together, but the second dowel would function in the same way. 😊💕
