Wow. You can rent an upright sander in the US for less than $100. It looks like an upright Hoover. If the nail heads are going to end up being exposed from the sanding process, covering them with laminate or luxury vinyl planks that look like wood is recommended. . . Lola is def loving the UK!

Wow! That is some *serious* hard work. I tried sanding a far smaller area once. It just never ended. And every time I thought I'd cleaned it and swept up all the wood dust, more appeared. It's like there was a sadistic wood dust fairy following me around. Your result was a lot better than mine - if ever your jobs go into hiatus, you've got a promising career as floor restorers. How were your backs afterwards. Medieval torture doesn't sound so bad now, does it?

Honestly because it wasn't stained by a professional staining it darker would have been patchy, plus we thought about how dark our room would feel in winter and just opted for a natural stain x

The dust inside the house was phenomenal wasn’t it? You could apply the filler in the gaps before sanding so you could do 2 in 1, sanding the floor boards and smoothing the filler all at the same time.
