DIY sandblaster

If you've ever wanted a sandblaster but thought they were too expensive, here's a video on how to make one for cheap. All it takes is an air blower which I purchased for under 5 bucks, an empty bottle, and some broken glass and an air compressor.

Great idea but do not do this without a hopper and cage it's a waste of material. Also, don't do this in the open air. You and everyone around you are at risk of a drastically shortened life due to the silica dust. Doing this in a shop vice is just coating everything in silica dust and slowly poisoning yourself everytime you touch anything. The dust can hang in the air for 30min after you stop. Wearing a mask doesn't do much if you don't take full precautions and wet mop everything. Silica dust is on the same level as Asbestos. You wouldn't go spraying asbestos particulate all over your shop and yard, would you?

Having been stupid enough in college to not recognize the dangers of NOT wearing a mask and goggles for a short time, can I just add that Solder Joe is dead-on-point. The concept is great, but either do it in a closed, sealed hood environment, or use a serious air filter / dress like an astronaut.

Please use an enclosed hopper. Using a home made crushed glass sand blaster like this in the open air is a great way to cut up your lungs and die young of Silicosis.

You don't want to use actual sand for sandblasting because the silica in the sand shatters into fine mist and can cause serious injury to your lungs

Sand is Silica, glass is made from sand. The problem here is breathing that shit in, that's why they don't use 'sand' in sand blasters anymore, they use Garnet instead as it doesn't give you lung cancer.
