Don’t comment a lot on KZbin but wanted to say - this is a fantastic how-to video! I just made one of these with a sequin stretch fabric and satin lining. My hair isn’t curly, but it’s super fine and gets tangled so the satin lining is a great idea for the inside of a beanie. Thank you for this clear, concise tutorial.

Your tutorial is so simple! Tonight, I used an old knit hat and lined it for my curly-headed son. I'm not very skilled at sewing, so it looked a bit rough, but it worked out. I tried it on my son and it was too small since that hat only fit him if he stretched it out. Oops, my fault! I didn't account for that when I cut the lining. I'll try it again on a hat I'll make from a sweater so I know it will fit. I know the second try will turn out better than the first. Thanks for a straightforward tutorial! :)
@BlueprintDIY2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve made that mistake as well. You’ll definitely score the second time.

@@BlueprintDIY Update: I finally tried again and the second hat (made from an old sweater) is successful! It fits me (oops) so hopefully my 5-year-old son also likes it. But regardless, I was successful with my sewing machine tonight and I'm excited and inspired to try more DIY projects, including another hat if this one is too big for him. Thanks again for your tutorial!

it looks like you did a straight stitch to connect the lining to the beanie. I'm looking to make lining from some of my existing stretchy beanies (not sweater style like yours), would this still be a stitch you recommend for that? Or is there a better one that won't super show thru on the outside of the beanie? Thank you so much for this video! Its been a few years since you posted it but its still one of the only ones I could find showing how to do this without glue!
@BlueprintDIY2 жыл бұрын
You could fold over the edge of the beanie and do a blind stitch. That’s the most professional looking way.
@KaosCreations2 жыл бұрын
@@BlueprintDIY Thank you for getting back to me! I don't mind it looking unprofessional on the inside (I'm pretty new to using a sewing machine) I just don't want super obvious outside stitching or for the thread to snap/pop because the beanie is very stretchy?
@KaosCreations2 жыл бұрын
@@BlueprintDIY Unfortunately for me, folding over isn't really an option for the beanies I have because it would cover the patch/designs on them. Is there perhaps another stitch good for the stretchy fabric that isn't obvious like a zigzag stitch is?

Funny story, lesson learned, make sure you can tell the difference between knit and woven materials. I bought a sweater for my boyfriend once, and accidentally snagged it, so the yarn was sticking out a bit. I didn't know any better, I thought ok no problem, I'll just cut it off .... Well it was a knitted sweater, so basically I made a hole in it. And the hole just kept getting bigger the more I messed with it. I ended up donating it to the thrift store Ok so anyway I LOVE your hat! LOVE LOVE LOVE it ❤❤❤
