I was expecting this to be something you were selling, not teaching us how to make it for free. Looks like a really useful addition. Thank you!

Good thing about hiking is smart people have plenty of time to solve their problems.

I’ve found other female quick connect modules (like Osprey) will automatically cut off the water when disconnected. I’ve also found them to be all inter compatibles with one another.

Great setup! Curious why you didn't go with shut off valve as opposed to a pinch valve?

This is a great idea. I went to price everything out it’s over $100 CDN I think I could buy a gravity water filter on Amazon for less. Do you need the 2nd set of tips or can’t you just put the hose on the male and female end of what’s already on the filter and bag?

1:49 😂 “pain point all the twisting” (proceeds to do all the twisting in under 10 seconds, with exactly no effort). (Edit: I actually independently came up with essentially this same system to connect my Sawyer to a water bladder hydration set up to filter water as I drank it, I just thought it was funny).

Cant you do all of this with just the coupling by screwing the sawyer into the dirty bag, putting the coupling on the end to connect it to the clean bag or bottle?

Thank you for this video. I have been using the sawyer squeeze for two years using the traditional squeezing method. I like the system that you have developed here. What would you say is the benefit of having the extension tube that allows the bag or bottle to be on the ground? Does that simply reduce mechanical stress on the system? With the extension hose, are you able to just set up the system and let it be? I assume that the water flow stops when the clean bag is full and then you can switch out to another clean bag if desired. Do you have a preference of the long versus the short system? Thank you.

Hey - I thought I could add something to your question. Majority of my camping is canoe camping with a group of 4-6 people. Its nice to be able to filter a lot of water without having a dedicated filter person...this allows more passive filtering using gravity and a large vessel on the ground versus traditional filtering technique that you described. If I'm only doing filtering for 1-2 people then I'll typically skip the gravity method.

@@taylorandr4 thank you. I really appreciate your input. I am only going to be backpacking with my son, so I don’t really see a need to use the gravity system. Besides, it costs a lot to buy all of the parts for building this!

@@taylorandr4 your reply is timely as I am going on a backpacking trip with my son next month. I guess this channel doesn’t reply to comments.

Look at all those fiddly piece parts? Syringes, adapters, on-and-on. Use a HydroBlu instead. It looks like a Sawyer-Mini, but flows like a Squeeze (80% of a Squeeze anyway). HydroBlu has all the attachments built-in, yet weighs much less than Squeeze. HydoBlu has tethered end-caps and thus requires no bandana. HydroBlu has 28mm female threads built-in on both ends, so one can attach the CNOC lake/stream water on one end and the filtered Smart-Water bottle on the other for an end-to-end gravity system (no squeezing). HydroBlu is smaller and lighter for sleeping when it's cold out. HydroBlu flush requires no syringe, simply remove the CNOC and squeeze the Smart-Water bottle to flush.

Did you manage to find out? I’m looking at Osprey quick connect or Hydrapak quick connect, or even just a garden hose inline cutoff valve if the disconnect feature is t needed.

When hiking, do you use your CNOC Vecto to carry water inside your pack? I thought this being a container that water goes in, meant for the backpacking crowd, that it's a no-brainer to say "yes" to this question... yet CNOC themselves, on their 2022 FAQ specifically say they "don’t recommend putting your full Vecto inside your pack if you’re concerned about leaking"!!! So what the heck? I don't get it. A water bladder for hiking that you CAN'T put in your pack if there's water in it???

I had a similar bladder to the CNOC bottle pop open inside my pack, needless to say that was the last time I put one of those inside my pack.

It doesn't help anyone hiking. When hiking you need to hook the sawyer up to a hydration bag in a way that you can drink from it. It's the #1 problem for hikers today. Please make a video about how to do that.
