I'm not Drew, but I use similar cuts for a different project. The wood sizes are 1x8 (cut to 7 1/4"); 1x6 (cut to 5 1/2"); 1x4 (cut to 3 1/2") and 1x2 (cut to 1 1/2"). Cutting the wood pieces to these lengths will give you pieces that are perfectly square.

Looks awesome! Quick tip: I've had better luck with oil-based polyurethane finish over oil stain, the adhesion on the water based acrylic can be unreliable over oil. YMMV

Remember, if you're doing that much work to build a custom piece 😍 you might as well build two (or more) at the same time. My grandpa's advice when building custom pieces is that someone always offer to buy it, you can sell the spare to cover time & costs. Sometimes, he said I should have built a dozen, I would have sold them all.

Staining tip: get a better sander w 100-120 grit and make sure you are cleaning off all the “sawdust” with vacuum. Wipe down wood with a damp** cloth and allow wood to dry before staining. This will make your stain and wood look great!!
