I've owned an SEL - same year - for 15 years. I don't detect an abnormal start. It's quite normal to crank it a couple of times if that big engine has been sitting for awhile. Great cars.
@garrettdodson61108 жыл бұрын
You're crazy that's a terrible starting issue. My 89 560SEL never had that problem started strong every time. Even my 97 S500 starts beautiful every time.

You can't compress a liquid, but in this case, you can burn it. It's not harmful for the engine unless you drown it.

i wish i had a w126 in that color. looks stunning
@dillenmoonen456910 жыл бұрын
Your starting problem is probably caused by the the OVP relay behind the battery that relay controls the cold start which injects more fuel into the engine to allow it to run richer. The cold start it triggered also by the coolant sensor that tells the ecu when the engines cold to add more fuel for starting. If the relay is shot or you have the older relay with only one fuse up top just go and buy the new style one with two fuses. If that doesn't do the trick then you'll probably should change the spark plugs and adjust the EHA below the air cleaner (its changes the fuel/air ratio). Check some forms and research it and stop pouring crap into your engine.

Hi Dillen Changed the plugs and wires prior to this. Thanks.

My 1990 W126 used to do the same thing. Even after new fuel filter replacement and SeaFoam treatment, it continued w/ a hard start. The culprit is the fuel pressure accumulator.
@SWF11279 жыл бұрын
Not sure pouring liquid over a fresh outta the box a/c would have been my first choice of application but each to his own...A half a dozen things I would have done prior before going this route and they are all pretty much mentioned here..When was your coil last changed? Did you check the fuse on the OHV? A few things learned the hard way...
@BDenes2410 жыл бұрын
FUNNYman1808 yes you can, i recently did mine. Mine was really bad so i went with the most intensive cleaning. full can in the gas tank half in the oil and half in the air intake. I really wish i had recorded it because i created a fog bank.
@Nightbird.10 жыл бұрын
I guess the fog bank created only happens when you put it in the air intake..because I put a whole can in my oil crankcase and another in my fuel tank (500SEL) and only a small amount of white smoke came out. I did the Sea Foam treatment because there was this weird motor shaking/hesitation going on after driving it a few minutes..so I hope this works..as I'm doing it right at this moment and am letting my car sit with the motor running for about 45 minutes. Wish me luck! =)
@garrettdodson61108 жыл бұрын
Also when you seafoam from then intake someone should be sitting in the at keeping rpm around 2500 to keep it from dying.

It's not a diesel, no need to wait for glow plugs to warm up.
@jacobjames11718 жыл бұрын
Maybe he was waiting for fuel pump to pressurize the system before he tried to start it.
@VilleVallaton768 жыл бұрын
In these cars, yes you do have to wait a little, K and KE jetronic has a pressurizing sequence when you put the current on, the key travel/spin is designed so that you need to take a new grip from the key after putting the current, which should allow this to happen. When an such an old injection system (slightly leaking injectors etc) has been standing a while, you might want to put the current on twice in order to enable a nice start.

As a professional auto repair technician with 20+ years experience, I'm somewhat skeptical about any of these automotive "snake oil" treatments. For the most most part, all I do is use high-quality, name-brand premium detergent gasoline with an occasional dash of Chevron Techron additive. I also use synthetic oil and change it religiously every 6K to 7K miles. Nice Benz, though. I just picked up a similar vehicle from a tow yard lien sale a month ago for only $500. It's complete, runs, burns no oil, and doesn't leak or make any funny noises, even at 365K miles.

@khurrammehtabdin648410 жыл бұрын
Hey Adan If the alarm is going off when you start it--->unlock the car from the passenger door that disengages the alarm. Hope that helps.

hi Adam Hernandez... I have a 1989 300SE and when I hope the door with out waiting for the doors to unlock the alarm will go off... so I relock it and then wait till all the door are unlock ... that will disable the alarm ... if your alarm is going off when you start it... you need to make sure your have all your doors unlock.. or it will go off

is there a reason you waited for the buzzer to stop before starting? I never do that often. Are you supposed to?
@Nightbird.10 жыл бұрын
I never wait for mine to stop..doesn't hurt anything. =)
@Ethan__90010 жыл бұрын
Nightbird On most car is does not matter. On old Mercedes diesels the buzzing is the glow plugs heating up and if you start with the glow plugs cold it will run rough or not start at all.
@Nightbird.10 жыл бұрын
Ethan Bowman I didn't know that..thanks for the info. Mine is a regular gas, grey market 500SEL..and I wish there was a way to disconnect the buzzer because it is annoying as hell..lol.
@dirtball_official9 жыл бұрын
Ethan Bowman Nope! The buzzing is the driver's seat belt that isn't buckled. The timer is almost the same as the glow plug timer so I can see why a correlation could be assumed. The buzzer is a little box under the dash that can be unplugged and tossed if you like. I keep mine only because I occasionally forget to turn off the headlights and it warns you of that too.
@Nightbird.9 жыл бұрын
I just Sea Foamed my '85 500SEL to see if it can help with this weird thumping vibration it gets when driven. It almost feels like the engine vibration you get when you put the wrong gas in (someone did that to mine one time years ago and it felt like my engine was going to fall out due to the violent spams it was having) but it's much milder than that..but still noticeable. Any ideas what this could be?
@cskabos8 жыл бұрын
seafoming not gonna solve your problem. many small things can cause hard start and rough running. better get serviced properly if you want to use the car for another 20 years. I use a 89 w124 still 99% factory shape. 150k km.
@MultiDreamer19795 жыл бұрын
Dude you need to put that bottle in the gas tank bro that is not the bottle that goes in to intake...you can hydrolock your engine like that!!
@hausmeisterengineering59523 жыл бұрын
bro you can't clean the injection system by dumping seafoam in the air intake. you are bypassing the injection altogether.
