This very quick and fun little machine sewn project is so simple to do and can be made up mostly of repurposed material. Make them as gifts for your family, or gather your supplies to make loads and fill up your craft market store.

Thank you for the idea!! I asked friends for the CDs, they have come through! I haven't purchased any yet!! I have made 50 so far and added them to my booth. They are selling well at $12 each. You are an inspiration!! Your videos have helped me so much!! Thank you!!

Wonderful. I will check with my Public Library for old DVDs and CDs that no longer play anymore (that may be up-cycled into Helping Hands). The Recycle Center may also be a good place to check. Most of the DVDs and CDs I still own are playable. I own lots of used and new buttons. Thank you for this video. Using my sewing machine will be much faster, and neater.

I make a pincushion using fabric covered CD’s. I have made these two ways. 1) cut large circle of fabric. Gather. Glue to CD’s. Decorate. 2). Make fabric covered CD. Take an empty, clean tuna can. Use fabric with stuffing gathered in circle. Glue inside of tuna can. Then glue to fabric covered CD. Decorate hat with ribbons, lace and buttons

Great idea, but won't the raw fabric edges inside the holder fray in time? I would sew a smaller fabric circle over each inside center piece to cover the raw edge. It would last a lot longer.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 2 жыл бұрын
Good question Sigrid. If you sew a piece on the inside of each disc, you'd actually damage the cards as they'd find resistance on their way in due to the bulk of extra layer of fabric and the stitching line. By leaving as is, if there was to be any fraying, the cards would actually push the loose threads back in. The buttons are also secured well enough to prevent any loose threads or fraying from occurring 🙂

We just started making these in our church sewing group. One of the ladies tried playing cards with one and the CD inside broke into pieces. Have you had any complaints of that happening? Any suggestions for reinforcing the CD?
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs Жыл бұрын
Jane, I haven't had the problem myself, but I did have a child come in the store and pull the cds apart causing one to snap. I know of another lady where this has happened as well. I'd put two cd's together instead of one on each side. I've decided I'll do that with mine as well so that they're more difficult to break😀

Just a little tip: If you lower the upper tension of the machine,then pull the lower thread, and you will find it easier to pull the threads to gather the fabric.

Hi Christine from Canada. Just saw this one and thought to make one for my mother she is coming over tomorrow and i tried several of my tread and crochet yarn.. all broke.. so i used a twine using a zigzag stich and omg so easy to pull the gather together i could pull it from both side. Love your video. Our son lives in Australia and attract me to your channel but you made me keep watching. Thanks and have a very happy and healty 2024.

Great video. i was going to try the machine so this was great timing. i thought i cut my fabric the right size but made the mistake of cutting my fabric and batting an itsy bitsy short. 🤣 l trimmed a Tiny bit of cd and i think it will work fine...that inch makes a Big difference.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Linda. That inch makes a difference. I actually did more on a couple of discs and the fabric bunched up too much due to the circle being too small when drawn in. The extra bulk made the gap way too big🤪

Catherine, I usually try to reuse blankets, towels, scraps etc. If using new batting it would certainly add to the cost😊

I bought the topstitch thread, I must say it is very thick, question did you also put the thread in the bobbin or just regular thread? I made like twenty, in set of fours, I put them in zipper bags and gave them as gifts, now I am not used to the topstitch thread, but it is a working progress, made a couple of booboos but I 'll get the hang of it. Must be the batting is not as large as to the outer fabric, I cut the batting same as the cd. As they say practice makes perfect, I will try it your way, with the batting, keep you posted...🥰
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 2 жыл бұрын
Practice sure does make perfect Ada. I cut the fabric and batting the same size so that they both overlap the CD. If making these by machine, I use top stitch thread in bobbin as well otherwise the bobbin thread will snap. I actually prefer to do these by hand as I'm watching a move or vegging on the couch. I did another video of these by hand if you prefer that method. 😀
