Brilliant, the suggestions, reversing the hinge with a rabbet clearance for the hinge barrel will locate the bending axis to the edge of the hold down and adding a cam lever will facilitate the the hold down process. In addition, adding a laminated meta strip to the underside of the hold down will reinforce the brake edge.

That is cool. I think for the hold down piece, I'd have added bolts with wing nuts and washers so I wouldn't have to unscrew it all the time. I have just a few pieces to bend into a box and this jig works!!

I was thinking that those studs that are a machine screw on one end and wood screw on the other would be great, along with knobs on each. That and something like a 1x2 screwed on edge under the moving part to stiffen it up in the middle! But it’s actually great just like it is! Bummed out that I didn’t already think of it! Lol

Thanks for the ideas used in this simple but effective bending jig. I have a few bending jobs (flat thin aluminum) that this will do the job for me. Fast to build and useful for later small jobs.

HA! Nifty :D Next instead of screws on the bar that holds the metal sheet you can add a locking bar on top of it with a hinge in one end and a lock in the other if you get tired of the screws ...

I like it, but if you flipped the hinge over and mortised out a spot for the barrel only, you could make the break much more accurate. It would almost eliminate the gap.

Having sliced my finger on sheet metal once upon a time, seeing you make the long cut and then flex the sheet with your bare hands did make me cringe a bit. But, this is still a good project.

I guess a plywood brake will last long enough to get someone through a project or two as long as you don't need to bend any 16 gauge. I applaud your resourcefulness and ability to think outside the box. However, I think I will be using steel when I make my own brake. Great video though. I enjoyed the sound track (got it stuck in my head actually). Be well brother.

If you put slots in the wood and use screw knobs with washersinstead of just screws, you can back the tool (bit with the bevel edge) off a bit for slightly different thickness metal

You'd get much better bends if you recessed the hinges so the pins lined up with the edge of all 3 pieces of wood.

Verah nice, verah nice. I like how damn simple it is. Only thing I'd want would be cam locking levers instead of screws but that adds at least 2 hours or $20 to the build. And btw, your channel name is awesome.

Nice build. I like it a lot. I'm curious as to what part you are making for your bee hive? With the size of the pieces you showed on the video, all I can think of is maybe some skids to rest the frames on. Am I close?
