I did one similar to yours. I stopped a few feet from the ceil and was able to put a shelf on top with Lanters on top. Since I rented, I made it removable. It came apart in two pieces and yes it was heavy. I have moved it to three homes now. The one thing I would do differently is to use that empty space behind the tv and fireplace. You can put shelves for books or make a cabinet door. I like the clean look so when I redo mine, I am going to hide the doors.

It’s super beautiful! One thing I don’t get to see in any DIY videos is how you access the outlet to connect and disconnect the tv, and how do you pass the tv cord into the back so that you don’t see it?? Maybe it’s super easy I just don’t get it yet 😆

If you want easy distressed boards, get railroad ties and cut them to the size you need. Saves a ton of work and they are only like $20 each for a 6x6.
