I've been following you for about 5-6 years now and I'm honestly impressed with your evolution. Look at how far you came from just being the first guy to make a pvc bow to a full forging, weapon throwing, sharp shooting badass-warrior with quite a fanbase. Without any sarcasm: I salute you!

I really like the over all shape of this one; there's just something about the way the pommel looks that gives the whole knife a very flowing, organic feel to it. Very cool.

I like that! Nick, I quite enjoy your use of rebar. So many smiths disdain this common material, but as you demonstrate, it's quite practical for many uses.

LONG DISTANCE SHURIKEN SPIKE: 12" length of #5 REBAR (Nominal Diameter: 0.625") 6" length of 1/2" SCH40 PVC Pipe (Average I.D. is 0.620") 12-14 5" lengths of 550 paracord (Average Diameter: 5/32" (Please note that #5 REBAR weighs approx. 1.043 lbs / ft, so you may prefer to make the entire SHURIKEN 1/2 scale?) Sharpen the end of the REBAR to a point and temper. Heat the PVC Pipe until you can shove approx. 4" of the REBAR into the end of the pipe. Install the (Estimated 12-14) 5" lengths of 550 paracord into other end of the pipe, as "fletching". *****(Substitute an old T-shirt or Silk material for the fletching, if preferred)***** The SHURIKEN can now be thrown long distances. (Have never tried this before, but have thought of doing so, for quite some time).

Thinking of getting started with knife making. Is this a good first project?
@rogerbennett7 жыл бұрын
If you are trying to learn to make knives, I'd say good first projects would use stock removal on a harder steel so that you aren't learning to use a fire&anvil at the same time. If you specifically want to heat and beat steel, then cheap stock like this, no handle scales and an easy heat treat make this a good starting project.
@fireandblades51717 жыл бұрын
this would work but if you dont have a forge you can draw a knife on flat steel such as 1095 and use a bench grinder to grind it down to get the shape and then bevel it and sharpen

Hey Nick, great video! What is the easiest way to get rebar, either for cheap or preferably for free?
@lazynihilist2037 жыл бұрын
If you call around to various construction crews, you can find the ones that do a lot of demolition work. Once you know who does it, you can pester them periodically to see if they're working on any concrete structures. Couple of hours of dumpster diving with a small sledge and you can get a good deal of free metal scrap. As long as the boss doesn't have a problem with you scavenging, you're good to go. You can also talk to local government to scavenge off the demo crews whenever there's a restoration project going, they get paid for removing waste by the ton so they generally don't care if you come down and walk off a few bits and pieces.

Simen Kulterud , I get mine from Lowes or other home improvement type stores. VERY low priced if you buy 20 foot lengths and cut them yourself.

Like your videos....any reason that you used water instead of oil to quench? I thought water may cause cracking in the metal. Ray....Oklahoma
@chrisjones60027 жыл бұрын
IIRC he has said he uses water on some knives because the steel doesn't have much carbon content. Lower carbon means it won't get as hard and is less likely to crack.

how much would it cost for a set of 3 rebar throwing knives ???
@timjohle88765 жыл бұрын
Rebar is cheap and cheaper when I get it out of the trash pile at work. Why not use rebar,one can make it look nice and shinny or leave it barbaric looking. I like imperfections. Nice job brother,keep on forging.

It's all about the distance and how many times the knife will spin. Also it works better if you don't try to throw the knife really hard. It would be difficult to learn from a video I think.
