It's not actually a constrictor knot, as he skipped a crucial step, but it is a clove hitch. Rather than just going around and underneath the two loops like a clove hitch, you're supposed to take the working end and go over the standing end before passing it underneath the two loops. There's an extra half knot there that does a lot of work. That's what makes the constrictor knot hold so much better than a clove hitch.

You may consider using 2 fletchings, 180 degrees apart like many crossbow bolts. And the problem with the flight can be fixed by finding the center of pressure and the center of mass, and making sure that the center of mass is in front of the center of pressure. The farther back the center of pressure is the more correction in flight there will be, and the closer together the center of mass and the center of pressure are the higher airspeed because of a reduction in air resistance from the flechings.

Slingshots are always just too spooky for me. Bows and crossbows and guns don't have that same risk of putting their projectile through your hand, unless you're Ivan's friend from that one meme. I'd have to have some sort of plate that covers the top of my hand and forearm so that when something inevitably goes to shit it doesn't result in a hospital visit. Wear a plate gauntlet and vambrace on the slingshot arm lol.
@DanielGBenesScienceShows10 күн бұрын
Agreed! It’s not _if,_ but _when._ The slingshot in this video is about the safest design I’ve seen yet for darts, but the results of a broad head going south would be devastating. A simple built-in (welded) skid-plate could help prevent a life-altering injury.

Try shooting them left foot forward , right foot back and holding your left hand lower and drawing back to your chest (right nip basically) instead of trying to sight down the bands - very quickly your instinct shooting will just kick in and you'll be surprised at how it works. It also allows a long drawback and higher speed. Loved this video and the way you constructed the flat band holders. Great stuff! 🙂👍
@NoPodcastsHere6 күн бұрын
Fun fact that blew my mind when I learned it is that elastic bands store a significant amount of their energy *thermally* which is why you noticed worse performance in the cold, since they had time to lose heat to the environment. You could try a series of 'warmup' flexes on the band to build up some heat before firing but my biggest recommendation would just be to fire almost instantly upon reaching maximum tension which will allow the band to act adiabatically (without time to lose heat to the environment) this will obviously impact accuracy but should provide more elastic power.

For the fletchings, you need to use Barge all-purpose rubber cement. The fletchings will rip apart LONG before the glue fails if you're using it. Barge is used in the initial construction of shoes when they are layering materials together that won't tolerate being stitched or tacked.
@tiogah6 күн бұрын
Make sure put glue on both sides, and that you let the glue dry almost all the way on both sides before pressing them together. Only downside of this glue, you only get one chance to glue it straight. Once the two sides touch, that's it.

I’ve an idea for an upgrade for consideration: Mount on your slingshot holding forearm a fishing reel with a brace or leather strap and add a small clip to the end of the line. Clip the line to the dart pull knot and now you’ll be able to engage targets with non solid backstops (water, snow). Beyond hunting fish you’ll be able to easily track darts for recovery, measure shooting distance, and even send a line over objects like a house or even a pond. Anyhoo, great video and I look forward to any follow ups.
@VinhNguyen-yi1kk8 күн бұрын
If you got a fishing line tied to the end of the fishing dart, its not bad in terms of flying straight. But just be weary that youll be having weight on the dart which makes it more likely to hit your hand. To help this issue i tend to fire holding the slingshot sideways

Tapering down rubber bands like that actually shortens their lifespan by a LOT! It forces the thinner parts to reach past the maximum amount of safe stretch, causing the rubber to get damaged, before it allows the thicker parts of the rubber to reach maximum power. Think about rubber like a bowstring, you never want to weaken a part of a bowstring, because you don't gain anything from it, but instead increase the risk of destroying your creation and hurting yourself. Love the vid though! :D
@leviransom99106 күн бұрын
Im not a slingshot guy, and this is my first vid to watch, but look into archery arrows for help on your accuracy. The weight of the arrow, straightness, and orientation of the fletching, all come into play for accuracy. As does the spine stiffness, but i think the short length of your darts knulls the spine issue. But this could help. Also, pro tip, mark/number each dart so you can see if its the same one that flies wild or true.

For finding teeny tiny arrows in the snow or in the grass, replace that loop of paracord at the butt of the arrow with fluorescent paracord, paint the butt of the arrow with fluorescent paint, and then go looking for them with a UV light at night. It's not gonna do much in the woods but for practice shooting in your backyard it's gonna make it much more likely that you actually find your arrows.

Great job, but just a few things... 1. Hold the slingshot like you would a pistol--UPRIGHT. You can't aim correctly when you hold a weapon sideways. 2. Double up your straps, and you will have more power, which will improve your accuracy. 3. Tie a small string(3" thread) onto the rear of the arrow, and it should fly straighter. Keep up the good work.

Good job man, gonna steal the drill bit trick. Bows and slingshots are all the same, all about consistency of follow through. Push the sling towards the target and touch your ear with your release hand. If you do the same fundamentals every time, your mind will connect the dots with point of impact and line it up with your left pointer finger. All of this is moot if you don’t concentrate on your target and keep your eyes off your gear. If you’re looking at your equipment, you’re not looking at your target. Aim small, miss small. ETA: grip, skeletal alignment and keeping your fingers loose come next. Look up finger slings, make it so you’re not death griping. You should be able to wiggle your fingers at full draw.

The reason that your dart flies straighter is that it's center of drag is behind it's center of mass, meaning that any amount of sideways wiggle will create a drag force that has a lot of leverage about the heavier part of the dart, causing it to correct more quickly, resulting in a much straighter flight. Throwing darts are weighted this same way and you can throw those guys perpendicular to the target and they will straighten out mid-air and still stick. You were right, it's all in the balance.

Wow, love that design buddy. I have got to make some of those when it warms up more outside. Plus don't forget that you can make darts using motorcycle and bicycle spokes because you want stiff strong rust proof wire that you can shoot from a slingshot. Also make a monkey fist to shoot over tree limbs incase you need to pull a rope or fishing lines to hang targets from. You can even hang up a screen for your projector so if your camping you can let others watch a movie or play video games on. If you take 3 stainless steel balls or hex nuts and wrap paracord making monkey fist and connect them together, i can't remember what the exact name is called but it's something like a ballerto? Basically a rope with weights you throw at legs of people or animals running away from you. It wraps around their legs tripping them so you can catch them.

The reason the darts werent flying straight most of the time is because of the center of gravity and center of pressure. The center of pressure needs to be behind the center of gravity for a self adjusting projectile. The center of gravity can be found by balancing the projectile on your finger. The center of pressure takes some math but can be skipped by adding generic fins on the back.

For arrows and bolts, the center of balance needs to be 10% front of center to be stable in flight. Calculating the kinetic energy of a dart would be fascinating; using the dart weight in grains and chronograph in feet-per-second. I'm guessing it would be around 20 ft-lb. Elastic bands have tremendous internal friction because of it's molecular structure. Drawing starts with a high weight that drops off quickly as the bands relax. Fun to experiment with, tho.

Your videos always retained that very niche and specific humor with calming jazzy music, its got the vibes of the good times from before harambe passed.
