Nice project. Thanks for sharing. One note to consider. .. PLA plastic will disintegrate over time if exposed to sunlight and or rain. If you used PLA then coat it with a UV resistant and water proof coating to protect it. You might consider making the vents louvered or adding a panel to block blowing rain to keep everything dry inside.

Great project. Just a note, when using an external antenna you need to move the jumper resistor on the Wemos D1 to enable it. It is the resistor between the antenna's labeled "0". It needs to be moved over so the PCB trace is connected to the external antenna connector. Your current setup is using the onboard antenna.

Brilliant project and well constructed. I wondered if you ever managed to add a battery monitor. Here in the U.K. The weather is wet a lot f the year and often battery goes flat because of lack of sunlight. I already built two of these weather stations and they work great except poor weather spoils play and that's simply not cricket. Thanks

Very cool. Version 2 should be glossy white geloy plastic (double louvered) with a white antenna and have a IP55 fan to aspirate the thermistor. The integrated solar panel is nice, but it will heat up; consider having that separate.

its a wonderful little project, the only modification that needs to be made is the position of the temperature sensor. When measuring air temperature you should not have the sensor in a box in direct sunlight as it will heat the air inside the box. Since the solar panel is on top of the box it needs to be in direct sunlight. The sensor or maybe the solar panel therefore needs to be somewhere else while the temperature sensor and its enclosure are out of direct sunlight. The whole thing is very nicely done though

1N4007 is a very bad choice for a diode! The 1N4007 has a voltage drop of 1.1V! You should use a for example a SM74611 Smart Bypass Diode with a voltage drop of only 0.023V (23mV) also the reverse leakage current is way lower 0.3µA compared to 5 µA of the 1N4007

Very inspiring to see this slapped together. It looks so ugly inside, but the outside looks very nice. I need to learn this technique more, lol! You can always make pretty fabbed PCBs if these go into volume production over quantity one, the protoboard worked nicely!

I've been using an 18650 on a similar Wemos device, and I have it sleep in between readings (every 15 minutes). Based on two weeks of operation I'm expecting the battery to last for 2 months - plenty of power to cover several cloudy days. (Although solar panels are still on order, so I don't know how long it will take that little panel to charge the battery)

@linagee
@linagee 7 жыл бұрын
Whoa. Nice attention to detail. I had to rewatch the video and now I can't unsee it! If you want to move the resistor to the connector position as he should have done, I'd just use a bit of flux/rosin over the tiny resistor, set your heat gun to barely melting solder temperature, set airflow to low or medium, use a fine tweezers, heat and remove. (Being extremely careful not to overheat and make everything else on the board fly off. I saw him put the lid on the project with the 0 ohm resistor in the incorrect place. :)

Some might say this design is nice ... 1. The front lid falls off without tape 2. the reading will be incorrect when placed in direct sunlight. 3. You will quickly have insects in there 4. Its easy for everything to become wet by moisture and rain. 5. the connenctor for the external Antenna and the battery holder will oxidize within one year or two. 6. the Plastic is not UV resistant and will become brittle very quickly. 7. You have heat generating devices next to the sensor - making the measurements invalid. 8. You dont have any fuse so in case of a short - the Battery probably has enough Power to set everything on fire... I suggest to revalidate this design
@leelaw.5864
@leelaw.5864 5 жыл бұрын
Better take any stock 433 Mhz Sensor with transmitter that fits your needs. It can run on battries for years. you can also modify a stock module to run on solar power. Because these modules consume almost no energy - there will be more than enough power from a tiny solar cell ... even in low light scenarios. Then use an arduino or raspberry with a 433 Mhz receiver to feed the data to your network. You can also use a RTL-SDR with rtl_433 software. When doing so you dont need to fiddle around with accuracy, waterproveness and all that stuff... It will be much cheaper, more reliable, more robust and more accurate for sure.
