This is my Grid-Tie DIY Solar Project in the UK, where I look at how much energy I produce during winter in the UK. I show examples of various dark and light days, with statistics and graphs, lots of data!

Maybe one more panel would kick start the inverter on those “almost there” days and give you something rather than nothing?

That's why 10,000 watts of solar is a minimum for the uk to cover winter

Taking account of your seasonal variations in power generation, have you an upto date figure of how long it will be before your system pays for itself via savings in annual grid electricity usage? If I can find the time I'd really like to install my own system similar to yours.

Very interesting. I have started rounding up parts to build a similar system to you, I have bought a used Solax X1-3.0-T-D(L) , dual string similar to yours. My garage roof faces due south and has a pitch of 15 degrees, and will accommodate 8 used 265w panels. I also have the north elevation so I'm trying to decide if it is worth the extra £200 to put 4 more panels there on the second string. If I go for the 12 panels, the total cost of all the parts will be about £900. I have a "base load" of about 300w, most of the time, and rarely exceed 7kwh/day total (I use night rate electricity for drying washing in the winter/ dishwasher etc). At the moment I wasn't planning on getting a feed in arrangement. Would be interested to know your annual cumulative output, and if you think my proposed system would cover the base load during daylight hours across the Summer months (Peterborough, UK).
