DIY Spark Plug Replacement: E92 M3

In this video I show you how I replaced the spark plugs on my E92 M3. Make sure to pick up a short spark plug socket prior to doing this job because the plugs against the fire wall are so tight in the corner!

Hey, you need to pair the Corsa Exhaust with those test pipes. I changed from the OEM 2 pipe + test pipes recently to the Corsa.... I was missing out big-time. Just a thought.... I regret not doing it earlier.

Dude, as someone who recently attempted this DIY, your video has some inaccuracies. You need a 16mm (5/8 standard) NOT a 14 mm socket. Also, it has to be torqued to 17 ft-lb (23Nm) not 22 ft-lb. I watched your video and that prompted me to take care of this, good thing I did my own research. However, the rest of the video, good job. I though you 'ghetto' contraption was hilarious, until I had to do the same thing.

Good video only thing I suggest is anti seize on the spark plug thread for and accurate torque reading and so they don’t get stuck on removal next time (my experience)

I’m getting one of those hood lights. When I work on my M3 engine I wear a head lamp, it helps. Could you get those plastic black covers over the coil and plugs to clean up? That’s bugging me on mine.

You didn’t have to take the air box apart. Just unscrew the two 11mm and the hose clamp, then pull the entire air box out. You also didn’t have to take the cabin air filters off, this job can be done multiple ways

You didn’t have to move the coolant res. I just unscrewed the engine oil cap and slide it thru. Don’t use a hangar wire to remove the coils, a long flat head on one side and your fingers on the other side to apply even upward pressure and it’ll pop out

I need plugs on the e90 M3 as well. Just did Motul brake fluid, LQ oil change, and cleaned the AFE intake cone. Car still drives way better. Don’t want old brake fluid sitting all winter with water in it. What’s up with everyone not buying the right tools? Get a damn coil remover on Amazon for a few bucks. And a long spark plug tool the 14” one it’ll make life so much easier esp for the rear ones. It’s magnetic too. Smh

It feels a little more strong maybe. I can’t really tell a huge difference to be honest. I just know that 40k mile interval change is a pretty reasonable and cheap way to keep the car running strong!

I would replace them at bmw intervals or a little before. If your car is stumbling/misfire/lack of power, that could be a sign they need to be done

@@MatteoVlogs honestly I waited until I had a misfire, which appeared as stumbling like Brandon said below. Of course new plugs addressed the misfire, but I also noticed more pep in the lower gear range.

Other DIY videos have also said 22 ft-lb. Can anyone verify which is correct from the manufacturer?

Correct your video!! 22 ft-lbs for tightening plugs is dead wrong! 23Nm is what is recommend which is ~18.4 ft-lbs. Just broke a new plug in the engine torquing to 22 ft-lbs. Should have double checked you. Headaches is an understatement.
