You've made parts-express very proud. I love P.E.. You did an outstanding job on your towers. Building your own speakers is a blast. I threw together my speakers 35 years ago. They each contain one 12 inch woofer, two midrange speakers, and four tweeters. That probably sounds crazy, but they sure sound good. The only thing I have had to do over the years was replace the rubber rings that surround the woofer cones, since the old ones literally began to turn to dust. I find it amazing that they are still up and working after 35 years. When I moved to an odd shaped apartment, the bass sucked. What was happening was that the sound from one woofer was bouncing off the walls and then phase opposing the sound coming from the second woofer. So I reversed the polarity of one woofer, and bingo, sounds great again. I have polarity phase select switches for all speakers. This was something that I was toying with back when I threw the speakers together.

@JoeJ-82828 жыл бұрын
+Mat cool Yeah, I would've used the nicer looking and much sturdier gold-plated binding post type myself, but maybe those spring type were all he had... Besides, the terminals would be an easy upgrade at anytime later because those are not an internal part of the box.
@TimpBizkit8 жыл бұрын
I would have used speakon for the "sub"woofers and a PA amp e.g. a Peavey IPR1600. I run 2 kappalite 3012lf on one and I could run more than 4.
@JoeJ-82828 жыл бұрын
+Tim Lewis; Yeah, Speakon connectors would maybe be best overall... But that's IF he has a professional power amp with Speakon connector outputs... But not every do-it-yourselfer, (me included), has or can afford to buy one of those types of amps!... Who knows, maybe all he has is a typical home theater receiver?... We both know that that's definitely not the greatest choice to power these speakers with, but in the do-it-yourself world, (especially if you are somewhat limited in funds at the moment), you sometimes have to make do, (at least temporarily), with whatever you have on hand, just so you can finish your project and see how it turns out... In this case, to be able to play music through it!... Everyone in this comment thread is bitching about his initial choice of speaker terms., but the bottom line is that he got it working with what he had, and just how many of us here have actually built a set of speakers like this ourselves?... I've only built a smaller pair of speakers myself so far, and I know how even that was a considerable amount of hard and painstaking work to get right!... So, even though this guy has some room for improvement in his design, (*every* speaker out there has that!), at least he's actually doing something like this level of awesomeness with his time, instead of just sitting on his ass writing comments on a KZbin video, like the rest of us! LOL!!

Great build, man! These turned out pretty cool. I've designed and built many home theater speakers for myself, and customers, and I will attest to the fact that it's no easy feat. Lots of time and planning. One tip that might net you some better SQ if you ever build some again, it's common practice among the DIY speaker community to put a healthy relief chamfer on the back side of your mid mounting holes. This lets the drivers breath better since there isn't a 90 degree wall sitting right by the frame vents to constrict airflow. It also cuts back on standing (or just plain goofy) internal waves. It's mainly for airflow reasons though. Especially on double thick baffles. Good call on the Titebond III. It's the shit.

I have built a lot of speakers over the years. Many were long before You Tube as I am 53 years old. However, I have restored several motorcycles and posted a few videos of my projects. Search Valkyrie Interstate Restoration if you are interested. I am currently tweaking a 3 amp audio system for this bike that I will post soon, but that is not the reason for my comment. You remind me of myself when I was younger. I dreamed up the idea of putting 2 15 inch sub woofers free air in the back of a 1948 Chevy I had restored. The trunk space was huge and the speakers were all wrong. I think I was trying to drive the system with a Radio shack 100 Watt Amplifier. This was in around 1985 and I was figuring it out as i went. I have also built several home speaker towers and only wish I had pictures of the many projects i completed over the years. I just wanted to let you know I enjoy watching your projects. I get frustrated at many of the comments about what would work better, or what some people think you did wrong. However, that is the nature of many of the people that enjoy this kind of work. I am a broadcast engineer and I my line of work is full of em! So, keep up the good work and know that most of us understand you can't connect a set of speakers to an amp you don't have using connectors you don't have. Some people will also never understand that building a set of speakers like this is only half the job. I have a set 7 feet tall and they sound better to me that any I have ever heard. I spent a couple years tweaking the crossovers and experimenting with different drivers. Anyone with a few dollars can go buy a great set of speakers. As a matter of fact, the store bought system may even proof better on Spectrum Analyzer, buy you didn't build those with your own hands and you didn't tweak the finished product to sound like YOU wanted them to sound. So just ignore those who feel the need to find something wrong with everything and talk down to those of us not afraid to get our hands dirty and enjoy standing back and saying, "I did that"! We also get giddy right along with you when you open some of those Fed Ex Packages. That is always fun! Looking Forward To More Videos! If you are into bikes, check out my channel. Have A Great Day, Randy - Ear Candy Engineering

@meshuggahlad78 жыл бұрын
good job. I have a few pointers. when you cut the holes, leave an inch or more from the edge. the weight from the magnet has more support, regardless of bolting it down. Also, a really dense wood with seamless construction will give less bleed and force all the audio out in the desired field you're trying to cover. a tall box such as yours should have a horn tweeter, doesn't matter what kind, at the top of the cabinet. mid range in between the theater and sub, aligned for directivity.
