i wanted to try and make my own spiralock inspired bendable dread tie, but i couldnt find anything at all on how to make one.
If you want a thinner dread band. You can just use a piece of 12 gauge wire with no twisting.
you do not have to use pipe cleaners!! the first one i made had a cotton felt core.
i hope this helps someone.
the smaller gauge wire was not needed because the fabric was long enough to tuck inside of its self.
the wire in the middle is 12 gauge.
you dont have to twist the wire. but i needed more security because my faux locs are really heavy. but it holds them, i will make a longer one next time.
i make these ties for the dreadlock sets i make for my small business. so i know they will hold.
if you have any questions feel free to ask.
there is a picture of it holding my very heavy faux locs securely. just click the link below

Thank you so much for this. You're ingenius. I couldn't justify paying the 45+ for a spiralock, so this is infinitely helpful.

I just made these using 3 strands of 18gauge floral wire. You get 20 pieces for 2.99 at the craft store. I did wrap mine in the pipe cleaners I like the thickness and I also hand sewed my edges. Thankyou for the video

I made them using about 20 pixie cleaners (for the inside wire) wrapped it with fabric, then scrips crossed thread on the outside. Put in beaded ends & a charm also. It turned out super cute. Good tutorial. I probably would have just bought one if I didn’t know how fast & easy they are to make.

Thanks for this, just came across these spiral things and was wondering how I could use some of my own odds and ends to put one together :) Can't wait, I have a feeling I'll start making these and won't be able to stop!

+Interracial Bliss Hi! I wanted to pop by and let you know I made one this weekend (finally, right?!) and it's super AWEEEEEEESSSSOOOOOMMMMEEEEEE!!!! Followed along to your tutorial, perfect length of time, it really worked out well! I didn't use the pipe cleaners, just didn't have any, but as you pointed out it's not necessary. Even with my shoulder-length hair it holds great, I was a bit doubtful at first since my hair's fine and not as long as all the other folks you see wearing these types of holders. Hooray! Thank you so much again for sharing this, I can't wait to make more with different shirts :-D

Hi, I just discovered this. This is really cool! I was looking for something I could tie my hair up with at night in a high ponytail as opposed to pulling my hair through an elastic hair tie. Do you think something like this would work?

I like seeing real people who aren't concerned about what they look like just to make an instructional video for people who wear dreads (who mostly don't give half a shit what others think of them). No one is perfect, and if you stress out over your nails being painted just to do a video like this, I feel sorry for you. It's such a waste of time and life to constantly worry what others think of you.

joey ortez no matter to write a philosophical text at this point. It‘s just unkempt. If you use nail polish you want people to look at your hands., otherwise no woman would do her nails. Therer‘s no question about wearing dreads or not. It‘s about respect for others, about beeing maintained and not looking scrubby.

@@sazachen whatever lol, my parents taught me if I can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. But they did teach me it's ok to talk to strangers if they need a better understanding 😉 This video wasn't about beauty, it's a crafty tutorial. I watched it because I have dreads and don't want to pay $40 for one of these. I'm sure you're the only narcissist who cares about what someone else's nails look like in a very amateur video made for people who almost always don't care what other people think about them. Ponder that conundrum lol... "philosophical" indeed.

joey ortez ok. Let‘s stop here because my parents told me to stop a conversation at the point where it becomes nasty and unkind. I don‘t need to be called a narcisst only because I like to be neat and because It‘s important to me to be respectful towards others in not presenting myself as someone unkempt. Have a nice day!

Ironic that having dreads in the eyes of others usually appears to them your hair is unkempt. 🤪
