Brilliant mate! I need some advice please.As a project I have ordered a raw cast of the Mandalorian helmet which I plan to cut,sand fill and the paint myself.Do you have any advice on the sanding,which bindi to use, then paint for a decent finish? As always awesome build mate!
@TheSmugglersRoom4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Steven! What material is the mando helmet cast in? Resin? If that's the case then just a normal assortment of sandpaper would work. You would use a lower grit to nock down all the high spots or cast lines, and then work your way up to a finer grit for the finish. I would probably use a wet-sand technique towards the end so that you get a really smooth and shinny finish. I have gone as far as wet-sanding with 1600 grit to get the look i wanted. Paint is a whole animal in itself. That really depends on what tools you have, but if you own an airbrush, then I might spring for some Alclad products for paint. They are expensive, but the finish is second to none! Hope that helps. Good luck!
@samantony70394 жыл бұрын
The Smugglers Room Brilliant Brian! Thanks for the speedy reply! It is resin, I have wet sanding sponges and different sand paper grits.Sadly I do not own an airbrush! I’m going with rustoleum grey primer and then automotive metallic silver.If it turns out ok I’ll do the weathering,I’ve also invested in some rub and buff silver as I saw a video on here where the person kind of messed up the paint job but after applying the rub and buff it seemed ok! Anyway thank you for your advice and you and family stay sane and safe! Cheers

While it is a fun and well shot video, ans some very nice painting, I have to ask why? Naratively a data pad would be handled and carried and used a lot, so having it as ergonomically designed as possible would be a consideration. Having bits sticking out seems to be a bad thing when carrying it by hand or in a bag. If I was building it- which I am not. I think that I would have focused more on adding layers of styrene in cool shapes instead of glueing raised greeblies on it. But this is just my thoughts. Still a great video.
@TheSmugglersRoom4 жыл бұрын
. . . the overall goal was not to create an "ergonomically design datapad". our goal was to share a fun inspired project that others could try, and to help folks escape the stress of what is going on in the world today. I'm fairly sure 90% of the projects we build would not be considered "practical" or "accurate." We do what we do . . . and most seem to enjoy it. That's our goal.
