Thank you. I had to unplug the wire for the light bulb that lights up the shift indicator. I just turned it a half turn and then it comes out

Would cleaning this stop the shifter from sticking,or does the ribbon need replacing?

If it will shift with the ribbon removed, then cleaning should be enough. If not, the shift cable might be causing the sticking.
