Thanks for the help with the economy as it is every dollar helps. My only advice is to say the pins to release the bag are at about 2:00 and 10:00 from the side holes upon entering.

Thanks. Used this video and 1 other to replace the clock spring on 2104 Forester with dead horn. Air bag was a pain to remove. The springs are difficult to see. It's a good idea to take a marker and draw a line down the steering wheel bolt and mark above and below to help line up steering wheel when replaced. $30 clock spring off eBay is working fine for now.

You made that look easy. I'd be so paranoid of accidentally deploying the airbag even with power disconnected, ha. Those traces in that cable seem so fragile. It's a wonder they hold up as long as they do with all the movement they would experience in a steering wheel. I work on computers and see ribbon cables fatigue on laptop screen cables with less "mileage." And I would assume most cars with steering wheel controls have a similar configuration.

Don't be afraid of airbags. I used to be. Just always disconnect the battery and remove the fuses before service and you'll be fine. They can't just goo offnon their own. They have to get voltage to those terminals.

Could you, please, explain how did you know that the problem was in the clockspring and nothing else in this case? I mean, the wires under the clocksprind could be damaged or the inner electrical system etc.

Couldn't be better timing! About to delve in to this on my 2006 OB 3.0 to attempt to diagnose a non-functional cruise control issue. Thank you!! Generally when a clockspring goes bad, will all the steering wheel functionality fail or can it be specific features?

@MrSubaru1387 Thank you for all the videos, I always learn so much from watching. I have this same exact model forester, and It went through the Engine block failure issues, had the engine replaced alone with the instrument cluster, Key and ECM. now i have this issue with a P2006 & CEL "Intake manifold stuck closed". I had the manifold removed, cleaned the TGVs, IAC and throttle, and replaced the TGV actuators on both banks... (started the car with actuators exposed and they spin) but still having a problem with it. The engine idle RPMS fluctuate and whine and I cannot get the Vehicle to accelerate properly. my only remaining guess is either the ECM is bad or the entire harness. any tips would be helpful... thanks.

I have a 2014 Impreza (Base) and only my horn isn’t working on my steering wheel. It slowly went from working, to only work when the wheel was turned, to now not working at all. Should I replace the entire clock spring? Or is there another connector that possibly went bad in there?

I have a 2016 forester and the horn does not work. Everything else does though - All wheel controls, cruise, radio etc works fine. Checked the fuse it's good. Does this mean it's probably the relay? I am waiting on the tool I ordered to get it out because I can't for the life of me grab that thing to pull it. I hope it's just the relay.

My question is do you disconnect the battery entirely and let sit for 15 minutes? Or just the fuse? Isn't it safer to disconnect the battery? Will that cause issues with programming?

Hello Mr Subaru. My 2010 outback has steering volume control but they have never worked since I bought it 4 years ago at 110 000 miles (now 185 000 miles). They did work at some odd point for a week or so when they felt like it and then never again. So from my understanding replacing the clockspring should fix my issue? Ive got a money to put aside for a timing belt, valve cover gasket, hg and you know, high mileage stuff.. So a clockspring isnt my main concern but if I get my hands on one it should technically (of course you havent diagnosed) fix my volume buttons not working?
@MrSubaru1387
@MrSubaru1387 10 ай бұрын
You could have an issue with the clock spring. You could have an issue with the volume switch itself. Hard to say. Would have to text it.

A couple of questions.. if anyone can confirm? 1.. How hard is it to manhandle the steering wheel to get it off? I'm toying with just buying a universal steering wheel puller but i guess I'll only ever use it once.. 2. disconnect the battery or just remove the airbag fuse? I don't want to take any risks nor have airbag warning lights left on . I'm going to have the wheel off for some time as I'm going to recover the old wheel.. My wheel is leather and only on a low mileage 2017 Forester but the leather (leatherette) finish is awful..

Had an unfortunate clock spring explosion when I yanked the wheel off to sew a cover onto it (airbag wires were snagged). Wound the ribbons back together as best as I could, and all of the buttons work. Problem now is that my steering angle sensor is off by 30 degrees according to my scan tool, which is apparently too far for my scan tool to reset. Thinking about taking it off the angle sensor and manually moving it until it reads zero. Any thoughts?
@bensmooth707
@bensmooth707 3 ай бұрын
Not sure how the sensor got off by 30 degrees in the first place, but I was able to reset it 9 degrees at a time with a cheapish AD600S scan tool. View steering angle -> move wheel until it is 9 degrees towards center, reset to zero, and repeat until the wheel is actually centered.
