I do the same thing with my Lone Wolf climber. I ditched the sit and climb portion of it and just use my saddle in the exact same way. Food for thought, I tether the platform to my lineman loops while climbing and defending so if it slips I dont lose the platform 😉 I also tether the platform to the tree once im at my desired height. I honestly can't believe more people aren't doing this. They are working so much harder physically and taking more time for literally every other method of climbing. Those 1 stick guys I'm looking at you lol

the only issue with this is that when you side load it the platform is going to twist. another thing is that if you bump it wrong it could fall to the bottom of the tree. Also if you do this then you might as well just use a regular climbing stand setup. saddle hunting came out so you can hunt in spots that a climber will not work on

This is my new method,,I find this a lot easier than the 1 stick method,,and I’m sure you tether that climber to your saddle in a real world experience,,glad you didn’t loose it in making the video,,it would have been one of the ruhro situations,,but I have been thinking about the one stick but doing all that acrobatic stuff with the rope ladders and dam near turning upside down to retriev the step to place it in another spot, ehh,, I am in the process of building b a super small platform to incorporate the climber,,and then whe you get to where you are going just step it ratchet strap it whatever you need to do,,I am even thinking of carrying an extra tether line for crossing over big limbs,,just watch if it ain’t already out there,,there is a saddle company rite now fixn to put a climbing platform out for specifically for this method, this is so much faster,,and I could see a platform being made under 2pounds,👍🏻

@UnfiItered2 жыл бұрын
I do this with my lone wolf but man I tell ya, this only works with ideal trees. Have you ever had to adjust the belt half way up and tried to get onto the platform after adjustment? Do that is such a workout and hard when you have all your gear on you while climbing. I'm buying a ascender and attaching a rope to that so when I do need to adjust, I can attach that to climb back up.
@gregorypiwcio78832 жыл бұрын
No disrespect but we started off with the loan wolf idea and tried it out was super sketchy the summit framework bites and holds a lot better have not had to adjust anything midclimb as of yet Multiple trees I’m sure it will happen eventually but specially used this all last season and tagged out everyone has a method this is the one that works for us
@UnfiItered2 жыл бұрын
@@gregorypiwcio7883 the reason why lone wolf is sketchy is because it doesn't have side support like the summit. But yeah, most trees around me are fat at the bottom and thin out real quick 🤣. I don't have the luxury in the dark morning to pick out what tree I want. I also climb super high, so that might also be my problem. Last hunt I checked with my range finder, I was 15 yards up 🤣🤡.

@@gregorypiwcio7883 weight really isn't a big deal to me. But just saying even though he cut it down some after adding the wood and side pieces I would bet that platform is close to 10 lbs. I'm wondering if you can hang from the tether and move the platform around branches to bypass the branch limitations of a hand climber. This certainly gives ideas. Even just to replace climbing sticks and have a separate platform to cam into the tree for greater stability if that platform isn't stable enough to swing around the backside of the tree from. Are you still using this method?
@gregorypiwcio78832 жыл бұрын
I only use this method past two years did not use any other method harvested 3 mature bucks I don’t climb trees with limbs on them I find straight trees just suitable for a climber and have had no issues at all The best part about Saddle hunting is you don’t need full-size trees just the size of a basketball and there seem to be more of those around making it much easier for prime stand placement
