If you have a pack of playing cards and you don't want/can't buy a new pack, it's not a problem, use what you have.
If you would like to write keywords to remember the meanings of the cards, feel free to do so.
If you have an interest in tarot, please don't wait to be gifted a deck. There is a lot of lore around tarot that you have to be gifted a deck to begin reading, but this is simply not true. If you are in the position to buy a deck for yourself and you really want a deck, just buy it! Claim your power!

I just put glue on the front of the card, then place it onto an index card. After it dries, I just cut it out with scissors. Now that I have blank cards, I can create customizable tarot cards, but use actual tarot cards as reference.

Wow, thanx, another small idea is to build on this cards, like I did. Go to a printing shop and ask them a quote for small prints of the whole deck on one piece paper in colour it's gonna be more cost. Cut em out and glue it on card then seal it with a very little gun glue or mirror glue. Do one at a time and make sure it dries well and will not influence your shuffle experience xxx

If you use two Deck's buy a poker deck and Pinochle. Pinochle deck's only have 9 10 and face cards but it doubles up on all of them, giving more room to customize court cards.

Nice idea!!! If you wanted them looking nicer you could look up the image of each card on your phone, trace on a white sheet of paper, paint and stick it on the face of the cards. Then use wide clear duct tape to laminate them so they last forever 😊 Those materials are usually available home so your family wouldn't know about it.

@@SmokeOracles I've painted my own set of cards this way but instead of laminating I bought a pack of card sleeves and use a standard deck of cards without glue to make them sturdy. This way if I feel like changing one design, I can do it easily. I got the idea from a custom board game channel ☺️

I definitely think one must know and understand the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana if they wish to utilize this method. Because the Tarot is tied to the Qabalistic Tree, Astrology, the four elements, and numberology all of these could be utilize to give a precise accurate reading. I utilize playing cards just for general, mundane, physical world desires. But if the client wanted an depth high magick spiritual reading I would utilize the tarot deck for the reasons above.

A full tarot deck has 78 cards. You don't need more than that. I put the remaining cards in a drawer in case I needed replacements, but you can discard them if you would like.

You could probably paint them as the original tarot cards instead and to add more cards without buying any, just recycle cardboard from cereal boxes! At least as just a temp. If it's for witchcraft you could cleanse them too after making them and study each card by one and put your intuition of what each card means "into" it as you make them! That's at least what I'd do! Hi Isabella, I haven't held an uno deck in a while. I will have to get a deck and see what it's like. You can absolutely use any cards you have. My suggestion is to use an ultra fine sharpie marker to denote the card instead of painting them, that way if anyone opens the deck to use it they won't immediately notice the markings. If you want it's perfectly valid to use only 57 cards - 1-10, page, knight, queen, king of each suit and a fool card.

You can just keep the first deck, that’s fine. A smaller deck IS more suited to simpler questions, but honestly I used just one deck for months and asked every question under the sun before expanding my deck. So do what feels natural to you. Also, you might want to look up divination using playing cards, I don’t know much about it because it’s entirely different from using tarot.

Saint Hotene Hi! I combine the two decks to make a 78 card deck. I use one full 52 card poker deck and then from the second deck I use 4 cards for the pages of each suit and 22 cards for the major arcana. I hope that makes sense. ❤️

Only use the 78 cards for a full tarot deck. You can set the other cards aside for another purpose or discard them.

It depends on your goals. If you want to keep the deck a secret it’s better to make as few markings on them as you possibly can. If you want to make them pretty then you might as well buy a pack of 3x5 cards and decorate them how ever you like.

I begin the explanation at 4:30 clubs are wands, hearts are cups spades are swords diamonds are pentacles If you’re learning how to read tarot there are several good videos here on KZbin which teach that but it is beyond the scope of the video. Also cartomancy using playing cards is a different method than I discuss in this video.

The picture on tarot cards play an important role in the reading, unlike cartomancy with poker cards. A deck of tarot cost only a few dollars, if you buy the smaller package ones.

And it's not just about the money, some witches/readers are still in the broom closet and they might not want family or friends to know that they are practicing so a more discreet deck is appropriate for them until they are in a better situation. @@SmokeOracles While I can somewhat follow that, as I am so poor I can't even afford to eat daily; I am also a hard believer of not doing something SO meaningful (meant to be imbued with your energy, intention and intuition), half assed. Nor do I personally believe ANY tarot practitioner should need to "hide" any aspect of that art, let alone in plain sight as hiding any aspect of ourselves is innately wrong and balances itself by bringing in unwitting blindness in other areas as well as the possibility of guilt or shame to taint your energy and your deck. We differ of opinion, and while I respect your right to yours, I live by mine as it's proved itself to me time and time again. If it's worth doing, do it all the way with all your intent and energy with 0 barriers or else you do it in bondage, weighed down by chains and your sight, intuition will be blinded.
