shunt yo mouf I been hoping someone would do a video with these gauges. I need a one with at least 300 amp range. I found a 500 on eBay. I may get it. yea 300 amps. its the curse of using a 24 volt inverter. great video . I was planning on using phone wire. to run from the shunt to gauge. and 18g for the power.

Hey Joe just did back of a napkin Calcs.. If standby pwr consumed is 130w / hr.. In 24 hr that's 3.12kwh. Yikes! I know it sucks; me thinks you should consider getting an inverter with low standby consumption. I too did the math and am currently saving up for an mppt inverter combo with standby draw of not more than 10-30w/hr coz I plan to run a pure off grid system. And every watt counts. Even for use as a normal ups those things are power hungry beasts 3 kw a day for no load! I have been paying dearly running my ups; my power bill went up almost 3 times from about 10 to 28 dollars a month!

maybe you can put a pot between one of the wires from the shunt and meter? or make a voltage divider with resisters since its double cut the volts in half from the shunt. I don't I never worked with one of these before! but it could work.

ive noticed with cheap meters they are not consistently off. even on ones you can adjust, in one end of their range they may be spot on and at another they are compleatly off. on my cheap lab power supplies on 5 volts the meter may be spot on and at only 30v they are off by almost a volt. i try to calibrate them mid range but its still not perfect

If I wanted to see something blow up, I'd watch "ElectroBOOM" channel.. lol. Just run 0 gauge cable to a mounting block with a box to cover it all then the UPS has 1 connection. Measure that 56v on the box terminals to test if it's your network cable dropping (highly doubt it but hey) ie check either end.

Hi I am new whit the 18650 battery .I've been watching your video I like it you're really good I just like to know why are you using fused glass instead just wire fuse
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 жыл бұрын
+Sylva Labrecque I wanted something to pop really low just in case a cell goes bad it will pop the fuse at a low amp vs a wire that pops higher and drag the hole pack down before it pops.

Thank you I will do the same I have 1 more question I have a camper with 2 batteries 6 volts trojan t-105 RE 225AH in my camper whit a 2000 watt pure sine wave I will like to replace my trojan for the 18650 batteries .so my question is how many batteries do I need to replace the one I have.Thank you sir
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 жыл бұрын
+Sylva Labrecque Depending if you go 3s or 4s. 3s you would need at least 300 cells at 2250mah or better and 4s would be 400 cells at 2250mah or better. Both in 100p cell packs.

+acs451 Never looked at them much to be honest but 10a is nice. You thinking about possibly going that way for more power in a compact size?
@MikesDIYTeslaPowerwall
@MikesDIYTeslaPowerwall 7 жыл бұрын
Another point, Have a think on how your going to use your powerwall long term and what loads your going to run. Eg are you going to run your basement off it? your whole house? 10kwh is a start but like all of us you will be thinking of the next 10kwh so before long you might have 20kwh which really means as your project goes on it would be wasted if your not running the house off it for example. Now if so the question is the apc is never going to work in powering the house as it doesn't have a good surge current when house loads turn on and off, so knowing that and knowing the bad standby the apc is a very short-lived idea but works for a test on the batts. Even a standalone 48v inverter eg the 3000w one in my last comment might not be the best and wont run the whole house. I would look at ether a grid-tie/limiter like how i am using as it works very well and is portable if you're renting or go bigger and get something like the MPP solar pip4048, which will auto fail back to grid if the battery isnt on or in overload if the house uses more then it can provide, both will do the trick, Both will power the house but The pip4048 needs to be wired into the fuse board and needs an electrician so factor that cost in. The pip also has a changer so thats another plus i guess. Just giving you some idea and some things to think about. hope those thoughts help :)
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah lol Im processing cells for the next 10kw. I could possibly hook up some caps for the surge loads. The option of switching back to grid would be the best option, I do like that! I appreciate the suggestions 😀👍

as far as quoting your day job. I'd look in to HGTV or some channel like that. maybe you could get a show on it. I'd watch it. do the same as you tube but on TV for a living. I bet you would have plenty of funds for projects then. I'd love doing it but I can't speak and work. and no one wants to see me.

Bad idea to use a ups as an inverter, i was waiting for this test and it does show why its a bad idea to use a ups as a inverter with a standby 130w at close to 3kwh of wasted power in 24hours its like 1/3ed of your battery power wasted, ur 10kwh just turned into 7 useable now the % of wasted power under load should be better but there will still be the inverter base power that is wasted it might be closer to just over 100w. I remember years ago someone saying the high standby consumption on batt only mode and not to use a ups. Remember a ups is designed to be connected to power and almost in inverter batt bypass most of the time which means the 130w standby isnt a problem but when no grid and inverter running on batt this standby is really a problem. Normally the ups will be supplying power to the load for the 15min or so until the servers/computer turn off and the ups shuts down. This design of a ups was never created to be run in batt only mode and hence the very bad standby when no load or low load. Its great that it works and really good job :) Love the progress but i think its time to really think about using a inveter designed for this. Peter was saying the mpp solar inverter he uses has a standby of around 50watts which is also kinda high but hell of alot better then over twice that with the apc. Given you have the charger installed you only need a inverter from 48, Have a look at the 3000w from this channel they do a 240v one, if you havent already watched some of his vids its def worth a watch. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWjOYYOAbdusq9E The grid-tie 2000w inverter i use has no standby current draw on the batt side and i think about 5-10w on the AC.

Yeah I figured it wouldnt be very efficient. I just wanted to know if it could be used as a long term option. If they will last or hold up. Ill continue to do some tests and use it for the time being an possibly save up for an inverter. Ill take a look at his ch, Thanks!👍

I think the APC will last years but would be a real pain and a waste of battery power to use it in the powerwall setup long term .
