Wow, very cool, it will be fun to see the install and results. I guess it's important to note that the cost of the battrium kits is between $350 to $650 bucks. It may seem like a lot of money but when you consider the safety factor and the relief that you don't have to check the system daily to determine if it's stable or worse yet, blown dozens of fuses it's a bargain.

love that you are having more fun with the videos. keep doing stuff like this! ive seen those BMS systems before. they look awesome. sometimes a little slow to balance but id like to see a system that is a little faster for introducing a new cell besides adding a munch more of these in parallel. maybe a hobby charger or a bench power supply. ive had a few really cheap ones 30V 10A they are noisy both physically and electronically but they are cheap and the electronic noise they make is still under anything that ive seen you do. linear supplies do better but typically max out at 5A for the same price range $20-40 what do you do as a profession? I dont think you ever said?
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Yeah definitely having fun lol. They say it can balance up to 2amps but its mostly at 2amps. I dont think Ill need much more then an amp since I did a fairly good job at making the packs equal in capacity. Now Pete probly needs to add some in parallel lol. I work in aircraft maintenance. I think Ive only said that in the live streams tho. 👍
@MrStemkilla
@MrStemkilla 7 жыл бұрын
cool career path! I have a friend that does that in the military and loves it! ever think about doing short videos of something along those lines? from how stuff operates that every day people may not understand or might be curious about or how some aviation repairs must be done that might be interesting. haha and like that you know exactly where i saw that. yeah not particularly a man of that method. it may work but it seems very troublesome and over complicated for just lowering a cells voltage faster. the lengths he went through i would have just attached a small motor or resistor and watched the cell voltage rather than spend an hr or two using those balancesers
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 жыл бұрын
It sounds a lot cooler than it is lol. I would do shorter vids but I work on a Military Base and cant have any cameras turned on where I work 😉😉😉. I could possibly add tips and stuff in videos about certain things but or an easier way to do it kinda thing but since Iven been around it so long and others that doit as well I would think to myself"everybody knows that" if that makes sense. Only thing off the top of my head would be safety wiring nuts and bolts👍 LOL yeah well.... Even he knows bahaahaha. I heard Jaron (the bms guy) say if the bms is working then you didnt balance your packs right. I agree, obviously since were all using recycled laptop cells its pretty much impossible to make them perfect and I think thats what Jaron was basically saying. Balance them as best as you can so the bms doesnt have to work to hard. All in the name of DIY 😃👍

petersirpol is a youtuber making a DIY ultralight and has been having questions on safety aviation stuff lately. it would make an interesting video if you can do some sort of collaboration live stream or a video format that is similar. people tossing in their 2 cents on what might be the best way to do what he is building. so far the only professional advice he has been using is copying designs of other plains and commenters who work in that field. anyways I think it would be a great way to add some new cool technical content to your page as well as help out another grate youtuber

so when you decide to use your batrium BMS you should pack some cells and consider this pack like a cell, if this it true how many cell you put together like a cell
@AveRage_Joe

Yeah each pack has 100 cells so it becomes a "cell" and you attach one longmon per pack or "cell" I have 14 packs and that will be 14 longmons.

so you have a 51.8V nominal battery bank instead of 48.1V nominal bank why
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 жыл бұрын
Yes I do, I could go down to a 13s pack but the higher the voltage the easier it is for a system to convert over to 120vac. I charge the pack up to 56ish volts on a regular day and the low end is around 44.8v.

@JoseGarcia-px9xj
@JoseGarcia-px9xj 7 жыл бұрын
there's a reason for this BMS, all fuses in you power ball they are not enogh
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 жыл бұрын
The BMS is for keeping all the packs balanced when charging back up so one or more packs dont go over voltage. For example if the packs were not put together with equal capacity's, the lower capacity pack would charge faster then the others and possibly over volt. So the BMS takes care of all that for you 👍 The fuses are for safety and shorts ect...

Question. how did you balance your packs before you got the Batrium setup? I want to get started with the powerwall/solar stuf (small scale, i currently collected ~300 cells) but i don't have money for a Batrium setup.
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 6 жыл бұрын
I only cycled them a few times before I got the batrium so they didnt get to far off in voltage. I wouldnt recommend doing that for long term since the more cycles you do the more they are likely to get out of balance. If you are building smaller packs you could get by with those cheaper Chinese bms boards!
@duncyy7471
@duncyy7471 6 жыл бұрын
@@AveRage_Joe I have one chinees BMS but it's basically garbage. i cycled it with some less good sells(i didn't want to damage good sells) and ended up with sells at 3.9v and sells at 4.35v. The sells heating up worked better at lowering the voltage than the BMS lol. Could be i just got a bad BMS. Maybe i can build my own BMS with arduino's and stuff. mmmm....

I hope you got very, very BIG discount on it b/c it really does not worth more then 30% of the price, rest is marketing till 50% and profit till 100%... About inverter here is the 5KVA version www.aliexpress.com/item/5KVA-4KW-MPPT-HYBRID-SOLAR-INVERTER/32523905612.html? I got my 3KVA/48V for 400$ shipped, is not as much featured as Voltronik variants(PIP and clones) it has a spartan menu but since I like to DIY is perfect for me(already replaced some components on it) and it does the job is supposed to. Now about BMS for those looking for DIY variants can look here: hackaday.io/project/12296-a-110-kwh-powerbucket/

correct me if I'm wrong. Balance your cell mean the one with the highest volt is drain to the level of the other cells. In your case 100 parallel cells(one cell) series with the other hundreds mean you have to drain around 100 amp that mean a big monster resistor to do that I don't think Batrium BMS has this capacity
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah balance the highest cell(100p pack) with the rest or lowest cell(100p pack). You could use a monster resistor yes but when you build your packs out, you make them as equal as possible in capacity and it wont take a huge resistor. The batrium bms uses a 1amp resistance load while charging to balance them out and if you packs are pretty close in capacity the batriun wont have to work as hard. Does that make sense?
