I have been using this recipe for the past year and it's been great. I also use colored acrylic paint instead of white and get colored texture paste to match my projects. It's been a lot of fun making different colors. I love your channel, you are so supportive and positive.

I haven't made these recipes yet and I don't remember where I got them but here they are: Homemade Gesso 1/4 cup plaster of paris or baby powder 1/4 cup water 1/2 cup white acrylic paint 1/4 cup white craft glue Heavy = more plaster or powder Light = more paint Homemade Texture Paste 1/2 cup gesso (above recipe) 1/4 cup mod podge or white glue 1 cup plaster of Paris or baby powder Homemade Clear Gesso 1 cup white glue 1/4 cup water 4-5 heaping tablespoons powdered marble (marble dust or marble flour) OR calcium carbonate(white) If you don't like the baby powder smell in your craft work use plaster of paris. I personally like the smell of baby powder. 😊

I've been using this for years. By now, I just add a bunch of powder, a little glue, a little paint, and a dab of water. Stir, stir, stir. Add more water or powder if needed. I've actually never used store bought texture paste.

Ive been making my own pastes forever... the baby powder will give you a nice smooth consistency and if you use marble dust which is what real modeling paste is made from (you can get it for about 7 dollars at dickblick.com), you get a more accurate texture paste, slightly less smooth with just a bit more texture. Either will work great. You can also use the Marble dust to make clear gesso, white gesso, and any color gesso. Its what is used in real store bought gessos, pastes and clear gesso. But I do love using baby powder for a nice stencil paste since it is nice and smooth. :)

Hi Marta, the texture paste you have shown here is awesome... I have been using this from the past 2-3 years... It lasts for a long time.. If you feel it has hardened, just add a bit of glue n powder n mix it up again.. I also have the normal branded texture paste, but I feel both give the same result but the handmade one smells better.. All my friends say that my work smells too good.. The smell on the projects lasts for like months... :D

I haven't tried my own texture paste I'm new to texture paste and like products I have tried my own clear gesso (I don't use the paint.) and love it .a tip that I heard was to use distilled water not plain tap water, because first of all bacteria that could be in the water also different things that they use in water treatment if you have city water and different minerals especially from ground or well water so distilled water seems to make sense if storing it.

Hi Marta, I have a few questions about this video. 1) How long roughly could I expect an item using this homemade paste last? 2) Would it go off or mouldy? 3) What is the difference between Gesso & Texture Paste? 4) What is the difference & what would you use Heavy & Light Gesso for? 5) What stencil did you use? It's lovely :) Sorry for all the questions, you can never have too much info :) Thanks for an honest opinion for it. Nona x

Hi Marta, another lovely video, thanks !! I first came across this receipe on Gabrielle Pollacco's blog and tried it !! works wonderfully for me , have been using it for years!! it is better to keep in a tight Jar, you can add a few drops of white vinegar and I like to use well boiled and then cooled water to the mix if required. never had a problem of keeping it in room temperature for months !! then I experimented with corn flour+ same ingredients, paste gets a little translucent on drying so one can add white paint to the mix. Tried wall putty for coarser texture , works very well on canvas and wood. one can add sand to the baby powder mix for a coarse texture as well. am sure more people will try this awesome receipe of yours and explore the wonder-fulled world of Mix media hugs

Thank you for the paste recipe. There are not many recipes online that aren't made with glitter. As well as the cost there is the convenience - if the commercial one runs out in the middle of a project you are not stuck with nothing to work with. I have made and use my own gessos and love them (especially the clear one which mattes down shiney magazine pix) , and I am just off to make this modelling paste. It's ingredients are the similar to my gesso (recipe of Pam from the Paper Outpost), so it should work well. I love your channel and your ideas, and I am sure cost cutting measures will not compromise the integrity of the finished work.

Especially to see how it stores and if the consistency stays the same, say, in a week or so.

Was on vacation last week in Arizona. Hose hunting and I went to a Tuesday Morning (store) and found tattered angels spray. I thought of you Marta. Don’t you use that ink/dye spray? It was $10 for 5 bottle of beautiful glimmer mist bottles. I think I got a deal. I hope? How do you like it and what do you use yours for? Thanks again Marta.

I have made something similar, I have never bought any modeling paste so I don't know how it compares, but I have enjoyed what I made enough that I haven't felt the need to purchase any.

Awesome. Thank you for teaching this recipe !!! I tried it myself and used corn starch in place of the baby powder. What I left out was the glue

Hi June, I tried with cornstarch, but I didn't like it, I may have had too much of something (glue or paint) would love to know if you tried it again and how you liked it?

Wonderful video :) I was really surprised that you have never made your own texture paste before now... I have been making my own for a long time. You might try using baking soda instead of baby powder for a nice sandy texture as well.. it is a truly different effect. Also make sure your container is air tight.. and if you find it a little dry the next time you use it just spray it with water. Thanks so much for sharing your views they are appreciated very much :)

Hi Marta, I made a big batch over a year ago, same recipe as yours, and it is still good! Only, it separates, but I just stir it and it works perfectly.

Hello Maremi. I'm happy to say that I've made many of your projects and absolutely love them. I've been using a handmade gesso consisting of 1 part white acrylic or latex paint, 1 part flour and 1/2 part of white glue. It works beautifully and I've made some really beautiful textures with it.
