I made a very similar target today using this guide. I used 4x4 lumber for the endgrain pieces, and I did 6 rows by 6 columns. Then I made a stand for it based of "tomahawk guys" instructions for making a folding stand. I am very very pleased with the results and just wanted to say TY. I am just getting into throwing knives, I ordered some and am waiting for them to come in the mail.

Are you using treated lumber for this? I know the additives used in treated lumber can accelerate corrosion in metal. Have you had any issues with that?
@RandomizeMe5 жыл бұрын
Yeah this is treated lumber, i have not used it that much so havn't noticed any extra corrosion but might be possible
@bumstudios88174 жыл бұрын
You realize decks use treated lumber? By the time the screws corrode away which would happen more from moisture than this thing used inside you will probably be dead first... or at least need a new target by then if you use it that much lol... just saying
@bumstudios88174 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize you might be talking about the knives... still probably a non issue

I have always used treated lumber to build my targets, couple of reasons. First being that the wood chip pile won't attract termites. second reason, throwing knives usually get replaced before the targets do. Anyone who throws as a hobby knows knives will come and go way before there are any corrosion issues. Tips will bend & break, but still work, as long as they are not bent to where your fingers get cut. Third reason, pressure treated wood tends to take more abuse than kiln dried. Kiln dried wood usually splits and splinters more rapidly when throwing blades into it, and finding kiln dried 4x4's might be a challenge unless you have a local lumber mill nearby. When I saw the finished product it almost looked like the + was untreated. And was wondering where you got those lighter colored boards? This build is great for knives, curious how it would stand upto throwing hawks. Used to throw hawks at 4" stump ends and they would fall apart in a couple hours. Made a hawk target out of 4x4s cut in 36" pieces and screwed 2x4's to the top & bottoms of them. That way you throw into the grain instead of the rings. It lasted longer than the stumps which were more of a pain in the ass to obtain in area I live now.

Why all the small blocks? Is it simply cost effectiveness or another reason?
@stephensdia004 жыл бұрын
I was wondering that myself, I made a very similar version of this target today but used 6 rows and columns of 4x4 lumber. It came out great.

You need to use the end grain so the knifes sticks better and the size can be made smaller if you want.

I am interested in making my own because I have a pair of throwing knives I was wondering what do I need to make one
@RandomizeMe5 жыл бұрын
I only used some 2x4 (2by4?) and some plywood to make one so if you have that around should be quite easy! Just make the frame the size you want or follow the measurements i used.

Not in America. Maybe it’s a true 2 inches by 4 inches, but in America a 2x4 ain’t that.
