Rim width affects the tire height and width, so you’d have to make gauges for each rim width to be accurate. Some companies measure width from the casing and some with knobs measure from the outside of the knobs.

yeah true, I think this is only a guide, from there I'm thinking to size down one size.

Very useful. Thanks for sharing. I don't have any 3d printer at handw, will try build one by wood
@BruceChastainАй бұрын
for sure you can do it with wood too, might even be quicker. Just need the template. I'm going to upload links to everything I have when I get a chance.

@ Thanks for your kindness. A template would be much appreciated.

New subscribers here. Can’t wait to see what you do with this GT. I just picked one up, same but in forest green.

hey thanks 2005! I love the forest green versions.

how are u going to compensate for the reach of the brake pads when going from 26 to 27.5? Paul motolites can do it I think but very expensive
@BruceChastainАй бұрын
I imagine you can do something with various calipers, but then you'd also need a rim brake 27.5 or 700c rim. I'm thinking of brazing on disk brake tabs.

Hey, would you have links to the 3d files? and maybe a download of the stencil for the wooden part of the tool?
@BruceChastainАй бұрын
yes I'll get that stuff together and post if here later tonight, I'll reply back here as well.

Does the tool take into account size of the knobs of the tires(especially the mtb type)?
@BruceChastainАй бұрын
I was thinking the same thing, not totally sure. I think what they did is started with the overall width and then tried to guess the normal profile of a tire in terms of the radius. I feel like maybe they made it a bit more round then what most real tires are. But yes I think the idea is to account to the knobs.

worst thing is when it clears the forks but rubs the front derailleur
@BruceChastainАй бұрын
how can that happen?
@paulmpakАй бұрын
@@BruceChastain Haha I think he means when the front can clear a certain size, but the rear can't clear it (as you have demonstrated in the video). Fat rear tires either hit the chain stays, brake bridge, or front derailleur.
