Shellac would have been a better finish option. Maybe not as big of a concern for a toddler bed vs a crib. Shellac is almost the only non toxic finish. For a crib where the child may chew on it it’s a bigger issue than a toddler bed. But congrats on the toddler bed, looks great and what a satisfying project.

Bridle joints with a hole through the center which would basically work like a drawbored mortise and tenon joint and also with that you could put a threaded insert in the cross support to connect it all
@donnygrahambuilds Жыл бұрын
You're not wrong. Though, that does introduce an easy way to make an errant cut and have to buy more stock - admittedly, I haven't make many bridle joints. I tend to stick to dados and miters. But a good recommendation all the same, thanks for checking out the video!

Definitely can be a little intimidating but with the right jigs it’s not too bad Tamar from 3x3 customs has a good video showing a good jig for angled bridles if you’re ever interested in trying them out

love it. I am going to get the plan and my husband will build it for our grand daughter. Wondering if I can add the hammock?
@donnygrahambuilds3 ай бұрын
Thanks! Not sure about the hammock idea. If you were to tight the bed into the wall framing, that could provide enough stability I think 🤷🏽♂️👍🏽

This looks amazing - how many board feet does this use?
@donnygrahambuilds9 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I can’t recall the exact board feet unfortunately. However, I do have a set of plans using dimensional lumber from the big box stores. Link is in the bio if you wanna check them out 👍🏽

Hi, what is the angle measure of the top of this beautiful bed, thanks for inspire us!!
@donnygrahambuilds Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video! I believe the angle was 22 degrees. But I do have a full set of plans (linked in the video description) that will have all the specific details for you to build your own :) Thanks again!

Why in the video do you have your top canopy pieces going into your posts when in your plans you show them on top of the posts?
@donnygrahambuilds5 ай бұрын
Hey man! Thanks for checking out the video. I actually made 2 incorrect cuts on mine and had to call an audible. The plans do it more correctly 👍🏽

@@donnygrahambuilds Thanks for the response. Didn't mean to call attention to it, bought the plans several weeks ago and following them and the video closely. Building for my daughter's 4th birthday. Very green woodworker but this project has been fun so far. Thanks!

I’m considering building one of these for my toddler, but with a queen mattress since we already have one. Biggest concern is changing the sheets with the rails on all 4 sides. Have you had any difficulty getting sheets onto the mattress?
@donnygrahambuilds Жыл бұрын
I’d recommend, my daughter went nuts for it and still will periodically thank me when we’re both in her room haha. No issues at all changing sheets. Just give yourself a little extra room compared to your queen mattress (I.e. if the mattress is 75”x60”, make your frame space 76”x61”). That’s what I did and no issues changing sheets 👍🏽

Terrible plans! Multiple wrong measurements and instructions. Also, the most important part is the slats and securing them and he glazes right over them in the video. I followed the instructions on the plans and as soon as my wife laid down on them they broke (140 pounds). Save your money people and buy some plans for a bed that is actually sturdy
@donnygrahambuilds6 ай бұрын
Interesting - I’ve spoken with several people who have bought these plans, built this bed, and not had any issues. If your 140 lbs wife laid down and the slats broke, I’m guessing 1 of a few things: you didn’t have enough slats, the slat support wasn’t properly secured, or you used poor quality material. In any event, sorry you had a hard time with the plans. Appreciate the video view 🤙🏽

@donnygrahambuilds- This poster was pretty jerkass but I bought your full size plans and am finding quite a few errors. Do you have a way to contact you and we could discuss. If you want.

So you’re saying, if you had all the nice tools, you wouldn’t have used any of them for this build just because you’re making a video? Seems pretty ignorant to me. Why make your build more difficult just because your audience doesn’t have the same tools? He explained what you would use in its place if you don’t have the same tools available to you and even refrained from using a $1,200 tool toward the end assuming most of us don’t have that option and showed another attachment example.
