It is guys like you that will push your country forward and I salute you. A word of advise, both WELDING and heating “spring” steel will weaken the metal, that’s what caused your “snap”.

@@tubergenmotorsports4193 perfect response. I learned several things from what is being done. Also, learn even more by reading comments. Most are knowledgeable and well intended by experts. I don't agree with calling someone stupid because we disagree with how they do things. To me, ignorance us not necessarily stupidity. He may just lack training and is doing the job as he was taught. Hopefully he can learn to do a better job and be safer before he or someone else gets hurt. I wish him well.

That correct, not everyone wants to go buy a toe jack just to do your own projects Especially when U have the ability and knowhow to make your own, "Ingenuity", when that bend snapped off, it just needed annealing, U did that when U welded the piece back on. I guess 7018 ? Good Choice. Great Video.

Something I learned to do starting when I would brake springs on my Caterpillar tractor walking beam, is like your blue part / spring steel when finished cutting and bending on it is to heat the entire part good and hot and stick it in isolation over night . This annealing process takes the tension out of the work and it won't break again nearly as easy or often. Good Video Thank you

This is a great idea . I am retired as master Mechanic / master welder. . It is sad to See this man lighting his oxy- acetaline Torch with no o2: in the torch . The Flame from only acetaline will carbon Up the torch . The proper way to light Is with all fuel and some oxygen . And proper way to stop torch is turn off Acetaline first giving no flame to carbon Up the torch .

Do not, ever, put your hand nor anything belonging to your body, under a heavy load. He just didn't realized the same container that went down in front of him can go down again and he put his right hand under that mass chopping bulk of steel. Don't do it again. Or you'll use the left one, until Jehovah regrow your smashed under a 4.8 Ton container right hand just to save few bucks. Don't play with your body pieces. Protect yourself, and keep inventing! Take care! And thank you! Also, whenever you're placing a pad under your container. Use 2 minimum. Bricks whatever you use, use 2 +. If one decides to break, it'll hit the ground or loose level. 2 +, will back up one.

Great idea. Good try. This is what happened... You heated the metal with the torch and bent it with a hammer... In essence you ''forged'' it and made it hard and brittle. You should have '' normalized'' the metal by heating it red hot and cooling it very, very slowly. This would bring it back to the strength before it was made brittle. Good luck next time.

Looks to me that you are using a leaf spring which you heated, and welded. Spring steel is made to be heat treated, and act like a spring. It cantains more carbon than construction steel which when heat treated and cooled makes it stiffer, and more brittle. I will not recomend you to use that steel for this purpose. Not safe.
