Awesome idea! As a former lefty, forced into being a righty these past few years, I'm amazed that people still use Blade-Right track saws; and that there's not a single good left blade track saw out there! So this will hopefully allow me the ability to use my track, and a saw again. It's been a nightmare trying to make straight cuts while only having the use of one arm and leg. I guess the "Blade-Right" thing is just one of those "it's always been that way" mindsets. But if a good Blade-Left came out, and people could try it, then right handed users would think "Why have we always done things wrong?" No more crossed arms. No more stretching over a workpiece. Track saws need to change. Until then, this will (hopefully) help me out more than you might imagine. For that, I'm ever so grateful! Thank you!

You aren't familiar with hypoid (worm drive) saws? They have the blade on the left. During my years as a carpenter and contractor in southern California, heavy duty worm drive Skil saws were the standard among framers. I was quite surprised when I ramrodded a job as owner's agent in Florida, and saw the framers using direct drive saws with the blade on the other side.
@carterscustomrods2 жыл бұрын
@Troy Stallard is very familiar. I preferred them when I was a lefty. More than the power, it was nice to bevel with the blade away from me. But with circular saws, it's more of a preference. I can use left or right blade saws with ease. The track saws are a completely different story, though. A lot of people just think it's a circ saw on a track, but it's far from it due to the track itself and the main function of tipping sheet goods. It's the one saw that offers more and safer function if used with the blade on left, for righties, and on right for lefties. If you are a righty, the blade on the right side of the saw requires you to put it in your left hand, on left side, for things like rip cuts. If the blade were on the left side, you could rip on your right side using just your right hand. And if you wanted to rip a 2" wide strip from plywood it would be so much washer than a right blade, where the saw is on the right side of the track. Hopefully, one day, a good left blade track saw will arrive. I'd love it to be a worm saw. :)

I like it. I just picked up an almost unused Makita worm drive saw at a junk store, for a hundred bucks. It's a bit of overkill for a track saw, but hey - it's what I have. And the ease of attaching and removing your adaptor plate will leave it available for heavier duties elsewhere...

Note: I upgraded to 48T Oshlun blade before I made a cut kzbin.infoUgkxvWxw4589nheZ_QlYwqaZpnQExQfvjV4_ This said, when combined with the Powertec 71153 track, the cut was glass-smooth and as straight as an arrow with no tear out! I was dubious about the kick-back preventer as it is a very simple, plastic device; but, it worked perfectly and is very easy to disengage when necessary. Simple and functional is often the best way of doing anything! Festool can keep its over-priced TS-55 and TS-75! Who needs such a pricey tool when an inexpensive, simple one does the job?! Nice bit of work. How much extra weight does this base plate put on the saw. How does t feel like picking it up. I have been looking for years for a cordless saw to run on a track. The festool contractors saw is quite good and good for ripping although it can work a bit for deeper cuts. Hilti have the 22 volt (Australia) cordless saw that can run on a track Suitable to festool tracking system with base plate. The makita have a large range of cordless along with Milwalki so this is a benefit. The Bosch also have a tracking system but none here for the cordless. I think the major tool manufacturers like Bosch Makita Dewalt Milkwalki etc should incorporate a cordless saw to fit to a tracking system. The festool contractors saw actually has a fence that slides in a attaches. Great innovation though with a good blade perhaps you can get less chipping.

A couple of issues I see: Because of your saw design, your track is on the right side, instead of the normal left side. This would put the finished piece on the outside of the track, and not under the splinter guard. You would also have to compensate for the saw kerf as well. If you keep your finished piece underneath the track, you would get into a very awkward cross handed set-up, unless of course you're left-handed! I think this design still shows great promise, but with a different saw that as the blade on the opposite side. Other than this, it seems like an ingenious design and a good alternative to buying an expensive track saw. I was thinking of doing something like this for my little skill saw, but it has the blade on the left, so would not work. Something like a standard 7 1/4 inch saw, would probably work just fine. Pretty much anything with the saw blade on the right. The nice thing about a 7 1/4 saws is the availability of good, cheap blades. Anyway, I thank you for the video, and think I may attempt something myself using your plan for my 7 1/4 inch Makita saw.
@whoDatBeDare8 жыл бұрын
Troy D the track is set on the workpiece (I.e. Keeper piece) and is running the cut in the correct direction for this left blade saw. For A right blade saw the track would be set the same ( ile. Again on the keeper piece) but the cut would run in the opposite direction.

Very nice build! While there is probably a Makita metal base, I'm sure it's not cheap. Since you already have a powered Makita saw, this surely gives you a benefit by being able to use the track with your portable saw. If I were to build one, I would consider adding 2 or 3 inches, front and back, it would help guiding starting and ending the cut. I subscribed and look forward to watching your other videos!

Bjørnar Magnussen You should trust your feeelings Bjørnar. You are correct. 100% born and raised Norwegian.

Bit of a long shot but how much would it cost to make me 1 and send it to the uk
@bellevuesnekkeri9 жыл бұрын
John Wareham I think it would be way to costly. Shipping alone would propably exceed 35 GBP. I think I have seen a commercially available universal adapter plate for tracksaws, but not sure. Let me know in a PM if you are still interested

Where did you get that track for this? Did you make it or buy it? thanks
@bellevuesnekkeri9 жыл бұрын
Arek Kosinski Hi I bought it a ahardware store, its a no-name, and it fits the Makita track saw. It has the same profile and was only1/3 of the price

great idea, i just don't like drilling a hole in my circular saw base.
@bellevuesnekkeri6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. But with this adapter you do not need to drill any holes in the base. You attach the adapter plate like putting on a shoe

what was the tooth count on that blade?
@bellevuesnekkeri8 жыл бұрын
+Mike West Its fairly rough with only 16 teeth. I have later changed it to a higher tooth count blade
@whoDatBeDare8 жыл бұрын
Mike West that may be the reason for being rough on the batteries. Longer rips need fewer teeth. The more teeth the harder / slower the rip cut. In Aus getting the blade sharpened is cheaper than buying a replacement.

Really great. Also amazed from the scroll saw you built. Is it driven by a jig saw?
@bellevuesnekkeri9 жыл бұрын
+Stamatis T Thanks Stamatis, yes its driven by an old jigsaw
