I would add biochar in the middle layer of the pebbles, it will increase the nitrification process plus will polish the water crystal clear.
@leecalladine Жыл бұрын
yes there are ways you could modify the design. We do have another filter system as well on this system its for the mechanical and extra bio. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3TafX6jpq6WqpI

Great what size pump,love this
@leecalladine Жыл бұрын
the pump running this is a around 5000 lph only. think its drawing about 50w. 112" pipe from pump drops down to 2 x 3/4" rotators. If the tank was round it be just 1 rotator.

How do you clean this filter, great video keep them coming
@leecalladine Жыл бұрын
There is no need to clean. All the sediment will just drop out the bottom. This is only for bio filtration, we do have a separate filter system for the mechanical. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3TafX6jpq6WqpI

Very smart. I will be trying this with BioBalls that I picked up at garage sale. 70 gallons of bioballs for $50 US... Not bad.

Hello! Really like your spinning arm video! Quick question. Where does the water exit and how after going through the media? Thank you!
@leecalladine7 ай бұрын
It exits it the bottom through 3 40mm pipes.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I’m in the process of gathering everything to make one sprayer for a large rain barrel. Why did you jag down the pipe then jag up to the filter box? I don’t know anything about plumbing but there must be a significant reason.
@BWu-cl5sk4 ай бұрын
Also, where is the best juncture to put a T and a bit of straight on top so that should the electricity stops the filter container won’t empty into the pond/tank?

@leecalladine also, how are u filtering out all the debris before going into the biofilter?
@BWu-cl5sk4 ай бұрын
@leecalladine NVM I will put the pump in a skimmer bucket hanging off the inside of the holding tank using a stainless steel mesh to collect debris before being pumped into the biofilter

Hello again! The kitarma media is not available in the US. I noticed you have it available on your website. Will you ship to the US? Thanks again!
@leecalladine7 ай бұрын
It doesn't have to be any specific media. Almost anything will do the job. Trickle towers are so incredibly efficient the media is not really that important. Sorry don't ship overseas.

Great Filter. I would like to add this type of filter to my pond. my pond is about 5500 Gallons (21,000 Liters). What size filter (volume /area) do I need ?
@leecalladine9 ай бұрын
There is not a good answer to the question. This type of filter is strictly biological and would be useless as a primary stand alone filter. However a large filter is always going to be better. Trickle filter will out perform submerged filter many times over. But there is no mechanical filtration in this design.

Good idea

If you need a filter to get on top of Ammonia or Nitrite nothing works better and costs less, uses less space.

i could be wrong but i think its not the anaerobic bacteria in the media but the higher amount of oxygen available to the bacteria as the media isn't submersed similar to when commercial aquatics aquarium plants are gown in a green house in a high humidity environment the increase in availability of CO2 to the plant increase the growth of the plant same concept in your trickle filter.
@leecalladine5 ай бұрын
@@danielmerrell8926 the anaerobic bacteria are supposed to be removing the oxygen atom from the nitrate allowing it to free off as a gas. However there is very little evidence it is effective in reducing the nitrate levels in a meaningful capacity.
