We showed how to build a durable truck bed divider that has great features. Some of our viewers felt we left out important details or features. Here’s our response.

A truck bed divider can be a simple board, or it can be constructed of premium materials for lightness and utility. The divider is placed into recesses that are on the sides of your truck bed. Most passenger and medium-duty trucks have these recesses provided by the manufacturer so a board or divider can be placed across the width of the bed to stop items placed in the bed from sliding forward when braking occurs.
This avoids the inconvenience of opening the tailgate, only to find articles slid to the front of the bed and difficult to access.
We built a bed divider from aluminum c-channels, wood blocks, and attachment hardware to allow items to be secured to it. You can see the entire build here:

Even though we had a very positive reception to the project, several people felt we left out an important detail - how easy it is to install and remove. Fair enough. We are remedying that now.
Watch the installation and removal of the unit, and we’ll emphasize again a critical dimension you need to incorporate when you build your divider - no matter what material you make it out of or how simple or “fancy” it is.
When you get that dimension right, the top edge of the divider will support long items you place to the front of the bed and resting on the top edge of the closed tailgate.
Of course, getting the length of the divider right is important too. You want the divider to sit securely in the recesses on the side of the bed, but be loose enough that the divider can be removed easily.
We show you that also.
If you don’t have a truck bed divider, you should build one right away. You’ll be surprised how convenient they are and you'll ask yourself, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”
