The part I like, and attracted me the quickest, was how the (I don't know how to explain it well) the part that goes lateral just above the side of the truck bed: the walls. I like the fact that it was cantilevered, with two uprights per side. That makes me think it's a lot stronger than everybody else's type of build. And won't shake apart as bad going down the road. I have drawn up plans for at least three or four different slide-in campers. I've yet to build one. I did turn a huge school bus into a motorhome, with my father's help. And he and I built an RV from a step van. I currently live in a sleeping room. I don't have access to a place to work on such a project, or I would build one for my pickup truck. There's another build on here, that also is by a father-son team. My favorite part of that slide-in camper is the top-hinged, rear, half-size door. "Truck home Switzerland" (all one word) is the name. I thank you for the some good videos.

Yeah. I’ve been wanting to do this for my 83’ F350. I can’t justify carrying that load on the front and back walls. I think I’m going to go this route, and just set up those air gaps for storage.

Right away I new it was not Canada -- we cant find straight lumber 😂 The 2nd clue it was not North America - metric! Canada is metric but we still do alot of building in Imperial. 3rd clue it was European - torq head screws - nice, but no one using them here that Ive seen. Looking good - I would have glued and screwed! Looking forward to next vid 😁 Cheers

There’s loads of torx screws in the US. Many decking screws are. Irony also lots of trades even in Europe are done in imperial measure.

I agree with @NovaSupernova, I watched a helper we had told a dozen times not to put his fingers under a board cut three off. When he came back to work he lasted till lunch before he was fired. Bossman had to work him half a day before he could fire him.

I have a 99’ 45” between the wheel wells. It’s older so I wanna cut the wheel wells back an inch on both sides so I can fit a ready made camper. 6.5’ bed. Idk if all truck campers are 8’ or 6.5’ Gutted they weigh around 800-1100 lbs.

Yes be careful not putting a too heavy cabin in the back.. Build a camper yourself or might get some sort of gofast camper set up (much lighter).

Been watching a lot of videos on how to build your own truck bed camper I think people are missing something why not start with a ladder rack and build off of that and then you got the whole bed of the truck for space

Moin, eine Frage zum TÜV, gilt der Aufbau als " Ladung " und wie weit darf er hinten überstehen? Ich will bei meinem Ranger die Ladeklappe mitbenutzen
@TruckHomeSwitzerland
@TruckHomeSwitzerland 3 жыл бұрын

@TruckHomeSwitzerland
@TruckHomeSwitzerland 3 жыл бұрын

Awesome build!! Considering doing one myself, do you by chance have rough lumber list and or total cost
@joewoodchuck3824
@joewoodchuck3824 3 жыл бұрын
Just do a sketch and add up the plywood needs. Each piece will have a typical number of support pieces. If you have a certain area to cover with sheets you know you'll have maybe another 20% in frame cost as an example. As for a lumber list, you'll need to stop the video whenever you see something else to add. Another method I use is to build a model with cardboard or foam board, and include all pieces that you would use to build the real one. Hobby shops sell all sorts of miniature lumber. My current favorite is hobby lobby.
