Step By step A/B Looper Pedal Build with single loop mode.
Video starts at the assembly point with the enclosure already drilled. Schematic at the end of the video.
A/B Looper Pedals are one of the easiest to build. Probably the only thing easier would be a single loop which is considered to be an external True Bypass pedal.
Looper pedals are a great addition to your pedal board and can add versatility and usability.
Parts list.
Enclosure - Die cast box.
1/4 in Jack Sockets x 6
TPDT Foot Switch
Hook up Wire.

Bloody good video mate! I made one of these today. I was watching the video this morning and went straight down to Jaycar to get the components. I just finished it then, only I added in a couple of LEDs to indicate which channel is selected.

Fantastic build and clear tutorial. Is there any way to eliminate signal loss? It seems whenever the pedal is engaged, it degrades tone or results volume/signal loss.

cheers for this video, very helpful! at the moment i'm making one but I tried using the beavis audio research circuit for this type of pedal and although in theory it makes sense but in practice it's a total disaster. Now thanks to your video, I'll be able to make this work!

Your switch looks like 3PDT (regular true bypass pedal footswitch) but you state ‘triple pole triple throw’?

Can I use this for a studio monitor and studio subwoofer setup, I am looking to go from my interface TRS to XLR (2) go in to the box then have A loop (with my subwoofer and its built in crossover) then B loop (just my monitors). thank you in advance and very informative and clear tut

Thanks a lot,although I'm not experienced in soldering, just did it and works great,no hum no pop-sound.. Would a pedal with three loops work as good as this one?
@PaulGrahamGuitarst
@PaulGrahamGuitarst 7 жыл бұрын
Nice. Great to here I have helped. Three loops gets a little more complicated to switch but if you can work it out it would work fine. I am currently working on a eight loop programmable switcher that uses relays and a micro controller and I am hoping that its awesome.

Im using "normal" jacks, not those black plastic(?) Ones you are using. All the jacks and footswitches are grounded via enclosure. Do I still need to run a grounding wire through them?

Can I use mono jacks? Or do they have to be those ones with 6 "pins" or what are they called?

Paul (or anyone else that may know), would this looper work with any instrument? If hooked to a microphone and an amp only, no other pedals, would it still loop the same?

Any luck? I'm guessing that the A+B switch bypasses the A/B switch and connects the two loops in a series.

Just got my input and outputs mixed up. It's really noisy thow. Do I need to ground the loop that's not in use? Is that y its noisyGreat stuff

Was thinking of doing this, but had seen a loop switcher that allows trails from delay or reverb to get through after switching. I assume it's not true bypass like this, but I'm looking to find a schematic for it. If it looks too difficult I may just stick to this type of switcher.
@PaulGrahamGuitarst
@PaulGrahamGuitarst 8 жыл бұрын
+thisdyingsoul76 It can be done with true bypass. You need to have separate outputs and inputs for effects between the A/B channel outputs and the final output jack. In this case you would only switch the input from A to B and leave A and B outputs connected all the time. This will add to the noise floor with effects being connected all of the time and I haven't tried it so I can't say if there will be clicks or pops when you switch loops.

Great, thanks for the tip. When I get the kit I'll have to look up exactly how to do that and see what happens. I've heard if you use a relay switch you can do true bypass without the pops or at least keep them minimal. I guess the question is what will happen with the outputs staying in the circuit

Hi Paul, i just finished building your pedal yesterday but only the first channel works correctly. The others one creats feedbacks. can you help me please ? It driving me crazy ahah By the way, i don't know much about electronics, but it seems that you schematic is slightly different from what you've done on the video no ? ( no offense, it's just beginner's question) :) Thanks !

So I just wired one of these together last night and it won't even pass direct signal through to the output... Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Jacks are different but I wired from the tip and grounded all the sleeves together like you did...

Hello, I know you posted your looper a while ago. Great design. One question I see the option of going A or B, but what happens if I want to take both out of the loop i.e., and just have the signal go from amp to guitar. Is there a simple mod for that? Your assistance is greatly appreciated

@PaulGrahamGuitarst
@PaulGrahamGuitarst 7 жыл бұрын
Are you using the same switch? If you are using a different switch you may need to use a multimeter to check which way it switches. Also check that your switch is not faulty by making sure each set of contact connect and disconnect according to TPDP switch specs. Lastly, check your wiring with the diagram at the end of the video. Are you running a cable through your loops when you test them? Keep at it, you are halfway there with the bypass signal working.

hello my friend, thank you so much for the video, so for me the problem is when i put the cables for true bypass it works with the pedal off but when i turned on the pedal it sounds like an ambulance haha, so i disconect the cables again but is not true bypass :( , i hope you see this and maybe help me !

I would like to add leds to this setup. Just so I can know which loop I am on. Is it simply adding a dc socket and then wiring the led with resistor to out on both channels and ground to chassis?

Hey, man. Great video! I made one loop with 2 channels, similar of yours, but with two leds. The loop works pretty well, but a problem came up, when I turn the channel with my distortion a buzzy noise appears. The pedal doesn't have grounding, I used a tuna fish can as an enclosure (not made of aluminum) and the external part of the jacks are touching the can. Can you help me to figure it out? Thanks a lot!!!
@PaulGrahamGuitarst
@PaulGrahamGuitarst 8 жыл бұрын
+Demetrius Silva Have you ran ground wires between all jack ground tabs? This is a must. Also make sure the switch is actually switching to the faulty channel. Could be a faulty switch.

Aron Kobayashi Ritch Sorry I miss read your question. They are stereo connectors. They come in handy if you want to make the switcher bypass the jacks of a loop when nothing is connected on one loop. That is what I did with this pedal later on.

Plastic case will not provide as much shielding as a metal will. This may well be the cause of all the noise.
