I demonstrate how to turn a charred oak whiskey tasting cup on the lathe. A great woodworking project followed by a tasting session with Joel from the Whiskey Rocks podcast. Since whiskey is stored in charred oak barrels we determine whether tasting whiskey from a charred oak cup will enhance the tasting experience!

You know what? We all leak a little bit after too much Bourbon! 😂 This was fun, thanks Todd!

Hey brotherman, thanks for the help. I am starting version two today with no beetle holes and look forward to another round of tasting!

thinking about the leaking.. couldn't you seal it with superglue like pens just on the outside? or glue and dust then finish with the wax? But either way it is a beautiful sipping cup

Thanks, Darin. So, yes, you could absolutely seal with something like that. I have been thinking of using epoxy. However, and with that being said, there are wooden cups out there. On the cup that didn't have beetle holes, it leaked too. Perhaps the bottom was turned too thin? The one I am turning today has a much thicker bottom and is made from truly seasoned wood. It will be interesting to see what happens.

@@industrialcomfort might need to use cactus juice and seal the wood before turning it. Epoxy might work need food grade due to chemicals and might seal the wood to much to give flavor/smell
