My old Tyvek wallet was falling apart, so I decided to make one for $2* instead of $20. Way better than a leather or duct tape wallet in my opinion...

*Cost per wallet, not bulk material cost.

I made one of these years ago and found that laminating the Tyvek clear packing tape before cutting and stitching the wallet together significantly improves abrasion resistance, without increasing cost or thickness in any meaningful way. I used that wallet for four years and it likely would have been fine for many years more, but I ultimately retired it when I finally grew tired of the FedEX branding haha

Awesome video as usual! I've used a heat sealer for a similar material(made from grocery bags) and for a slightly different project, but it has lasted years. I heat sealed a couple times for each seam. So, That might be another option.

Hi Winston, i can't believe i just found your channel(I use youtube a lot). The stuff your doing is amazing and you seem like a really cool guy. I was looking at your tyvek wallet video because i was planning on making myself one as well. Btw, do you live in michigan? I do and it seems like a lot of your videos consist of the state. I'm a student going into healthcare, and looking at the projects you do, i really question what i'm going into. Perhaps you could do some videos on what your field is and how you got into it? Thanks, Justin

Have you tried a drag knife for cutting directly on the Tyvek with the Shapeoko? Awesome videos Winston!

A vacuum table would be helpful. It would still be a difficult task because the material is so thin.

@Jeffrey Min: (can't reply directly, I blame G+) I would check your GRBL settings. Step pulse duration and delay length. They may need to be adjusted (see wiki/forum).

I have to say you come up with some interesting projects, Thanks for sharing. How do you like that spindle, I am awaiting the arrival of my Shapeoko 3
@WinstonMakes
@WinstonMakes 9 жыл бұрын
james shelton The spindle has met my expectations. Lot quieter, good amount of power for any projects in wood. Still working out optimal parameters for Aluminum. Won't hold a candle to a DWP-611 on the S3... although I will miss the ER-11 collets.

Do you think an ordinary endmill would cut tyvek cleanly if you put your plywood mask over the top of the sheet to hold it down? Some carefully placed clamps would let you cut them ten sheets at a time maybe?
@WinstonMakes

BadWithComputer With a really sharp end mill, I think there's a chance. I do want to try some test cuts on paper-like materials, if I ever get around to it, I'll let you know. But wouldn't hurt to try, and you could probably get around to it before me.

I've run into a problem with my own Shapeoko where the Z axis will not go a direction that I have selected it to go in. Every now and then it I'll pulsate up and down instead of going down. Do you know how to fix this Winston?

Nice project! Can you get Tyvek in colors other then white?
@WinstonMakes
@WinstonMakes 9 жыл бұрын
Caleb Peters I know it exists, because I've seen wallets made with it, but I haven't been able to find a good source... next best option would be to find out how well tyvek holds onto ink, and maybe print your own designs.

Hi Winston, thank you for the link. I will grind through some of the info and see if I can get some of my grey matter to understand it. Have you built a guitar? Any interest? I teach guitar building. I would be glad to teach you, the only cost would be what you wanted to spend on material for the guitar. If you email me I will reply with some photos of some I have built. Well, I admit, I will be picking your brain while we are building your guitar. Thanks for your help Rev.Ken
