Wow, how often are you under the hood in the dark? I'm an old fart so I hardly drive at night anymore, so my 4Runner has no auxiliary lights outside much less under the hood although that's a neat idea. When I was a USAF aircraft mechanic, it was the flashlight in the mouth routine. Now, I use headlamps. In my travel trailer, I use a bunch of battery powered LED puck lights where the manufacturer didn't place lights. Yes, it's a PITA to install and remove the batteries, but then I'm not in the trailer everyday.
