DIY Upgrade a Blackbox LED to Get Better Spread and Coverage For a Reef Tank

This is a very quick and easy upgrade to help with the spread and coverage for a cheap Blackbox Led light. This will work with any Chinese LED light.

I'd recommend just frosting the acrylic with some acetone. Extremely easy to do and would work way better as a diffuser. I don't know why there aren't more people making these mods on black boxes. Their quality becomes comparable to lights 3-4x its price.

I did a series on this, using par meter and noticed the spread on a single LED without the lens cap is so wide, the par dropped by more than 50% 😯

I have a par meter I’m gonna use to measure the par later

Or just raise them up 18 to 20inches and don’t need to remove the lenses

Is that a 40 breeder you're using it in?

Is 1 of that blackbox enough for a 40 breeder?

I'm using it on a 20 long. I would say if you have a 40 breeder it should be good to use 1 depending on how high you mount it. Mine is about 13 inches above the tank. So you might want to try 14 inches or more for a 40 breeder if you difuse it the way I did.
