I have a question i hope you could give your opinion on , thanks for this vid by the way was very helpful . I was also doing a conversion similar to this one , although its for powering a sound board that runs on 3 AA . I am concerned about the extra . 5 volts . I was told to use a resistor , 100 ohms to drop the voltage but some who have done this conversion did not , you included it appears . Do you see any issues with not using a resistor , the game boy seems ok with it . Is everything still functioning correctly ?

Waynes butler it’s important to note that the buck converter board with the screw on it sets the voltage to whatever you want. That’s why there’s no resistor, the buck converter is reducing the voltage for me. Now, just how tolerant your sound board will be to 5V when it expects 4.5, I can’t say. Remember that a AA battery produces 1.7V max when fresh and drops to below 1.5V when nearly dead so any device must tolerate a v drop of some sort. So given that, I’d wager that any battery operated device that runs on 3 AA batteries would likely run fine off of 5V from a USB charger.

@@everlasting1 Thanks so much for the response . Was the answer i was hoping for . I just wanted some insurance because this is a one way trip with this sound board , no replacement available . Although i know these things work on tolerance or a range of voltage before the magic smoke appears .lol

Waynes butler hah happy to help. No guarantees but if it breaks you get to keep both pieces. 🧐
