The hood vent turned out beautiful. Here is a tip; you might want to put a flat paint over the drywall, overtime the drywall will crack especially due to the heat in the kitchen. Your kitchen deserves a photo article in the cottage magazines.

Sorry I have the opposite opinion. I find plate racks add a cluttered look, as opposed to closed cupboard doors. Andrea's kitchen is very charming, but it is busy with her many collections of copper, cutting boards, pottery, utensils, greenery etc. I personally feel that adding plate racks would throw it over the top with too much going on. I enjoy Andrea's style but good design is knowing when the stop. There's such a thing as too much!

This looks very nice, job well done. Just a few things to think about. 1) I am a licensed electrical contractor, and unfortunately you have created a major code violation. I’m not sure if I missed something or not, but you completely buried and covered a junction box AND the outlet that used to go to a microwave I suppose. That’s a BIG no no. There is now no way to access either of those if there is a problem in the future. Maybe your vent is cut into the cabinet and it can be removed, revealing the outlet up in the cabinet? 2) How do you think the joint compound will hold up to the steam from cooking, especially in the corners where there is no support (ie metal mesh or corner trim)? Again, not casting shade as you both have done a wonderful job and it looks great, just some food for thought 👍🏻 By the way, my wife loves your channel and didn’t want me to say anything 😂

You really nailed the english cottage vibe. Your hood vent cover is gorgeous. You and your husband did a fabulous job. Adding the beam touches above your cabinets pulled the entire look together and really elevated the entire vibe.

Mike is awesome! You are blessed! It looks very nice. Your kitchen is small and you have a lot of nice things, but while the plate racks are a nice idea, they may make it look cluttered. Whatever you decide, I 'm sure that you will be happy. You take such good care of your home and it shows.

Really pretty hood! So you think you will have to seal it in anyway! I would be concerned that steam, splatters, etc could stain/ discolor the hood without it being sealed.

I love your aesthetic and keep coming back to see and review what you have done to gradually incorporate some of your style decisions! As for the plate rack next to the stove, I had one in one of the homes we lived in, with an efficient vent hood and those plates collected dust and grease and I rarely fried anything, it’s just the nature of cooking. I also had a plate rack over the sink and the same issue. For me, personally, I have no patience having to wash the presumptive clean dishes before using them. And again, I love your style and Mime is a rock star!

Just my opinion, you already have an open cutting board rack on the opposite wall. Perhaps just one open plate shelf to the left of the stove. Love your decor style.

I think the open plate racks will definitely open up your kitchen and make it appear larger. Great idea. I love the way open shelving looks but I also am not a fan of clutter. And that’s what mine would look like. Mmmm, I do like the plate rack idea. Like vertical…… I think you may have inspired an idea here! My husband thanks you! ❤️😂 God bless!

I'm all for open plate racks for your most used items. Sure, you'll have to wipe them down here and there but as long as you use it all, they stay clean. We had all open shelving in our last kitchen and loved it for many years. Your kitchen looks so special.

The range hood is gorgeous, and replacing the moulding was perfect. I like the idea of the plate rack, but rather than open, maybe screen doors? I would be concerned about grime right next to the stove. Maybe beside the sink (above DW) instead?. And next step…take off the crown moulding on the other uppers, make boxes up to the ceiling using the aged timbers. If you need doors, make really simple frames with a screen inset, and hardware that hinges up rather than sideways. That would take out the final “modern kitchen” feel.

I took down two upper cabinets. This was on both sides of my sink area. One side I did open shelves and on the other side I hung decorative plates. It’s so beautiful I really wish I would have taken them all down. lol In my opinion (take it with a grain of salt) I would do a plate rake on one side and open shelves on the other. The range hood looks so beautiful. Great job! It’s so funny how I was looking to change out my hood also. This is the only thing I have to do yet to complete my english cottage kitchen. Thanks for sharing your creative ideas. This helps ladies so much. Homemaking is the best!
