I know this was from two years ago, but this is awesome. I just yesterday commented on a video of a paludarium with a waterfall that I would love to make a vivarium with a waterfall and a cave and then today this pops up on my youtube homepage which was perfect since it's exactly what I wanted. Maybe not 100% how I would do it with the design of course, but it's awesome.

*IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ* - Hey, I enjoyed watching the video! I did a similar method, where I used the expanding foam to create a guide for the water and I siliconed coco fiber into it. I waited about a week with the cage in a heavy ventilated area with a fan so it would be safe for the animals. Everything looked fine, but after a few hours when the cage was all planted and ready to go, I noticed that there was a leak. This leak wasn’t a leak that went out of the cage, but one where the water would go from one place to another where it shouldn’t be. I found the source - The water was trickling down from its path in the foam to the land area, and normally this would be fine in most vivariums, but in my case the land and water areas are divided with a watertight barrier. This meant that water was escaping from the pond with the waterfall into the land section, so it would therefore drain the pond by about an inch or two (this might not seem like a big deal, but it’s a 10 gallon so the pond can only contain about 3 inches of water - vertically) Overall, the problem is that I need a better path for the water to get down from point A (top of waterfall) to point B(pond area) AKA bottom of waterfall. So, I thought about silicon and expanding foam, but the cage was all planted and had my frog in so I didn’t want to rip everything out, and I wouldn’t even know if they would work. I’m looking for a solution that can get the water from the top to bottom without any leaks, maybe something like a clay which would be easy since I just have to plug it into the cage - also it would be non toxic to the fire belly. Please let me know if you guys *(anyone that sees this comment)* can help me out with this, because The waterfall can’t run since there’s a leak, and although The firebelly doesn’t need a waterfall, it would be nice to have for filtration and looks. Any response will be appreciated since I just want to find a solution. Thank you for reading.

Voltix9 i guess if the leak isnt touching any plants, you can use hot glue if you take the frogs out for a little while. But thats not a permanent solution

No problem. Do you order from Dutch Rana much? I’m from the U.K., but I’m considering making a plant order with them as they have some plants that we can’t get easily in the U.K.

Mostly the plants come from expo's, some are form garden centres. But the plants that I order from Dutch Rana are always in very good shape. I recommend that store!

Hey there! I'm so grateful for your videos! I'm now taking my hand at making my own vivarium like yours! I just got done with the epoxy resin in my cave and I was hoping you could answer some questions. When you are putting bromeliads and other plants, I noticed a lot of the time you didn't have a flower pot. Are you planting these directly to the substrate that you glued/epoxied in? If not, how do you get it to stay? My other question is, what substrate are you using for inside of the bottom of your pond? I don't want to clog the tubes from getting water but I would assume I would need some type of sand or something similar?
@foamandlizards91606 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I just get some spagnum moss, make it wet and put it around the roots of the bromiliad (with fishing rope). After that i put it agains the background and make sure it's stuck with toothpicks. you can only do this with plants that dont need roots to grow. For the substrate in the water area I just use aquarium sand, but you can put the tubes a little higher so the sand cant go in. I made the mistake (with this build) by not doing that, but the water flow is still good;) Anyway, good luck with your build man, and thank you!

so will the expanding foam stop water from going in to the land area as i am going to make a crested gecko vivarium with my dads 4ft fish tank which is taller than my exo terra viv and put a small pond and water fall in it and perhaps some tropical fish?
@denzel51376 жыл бұрын
the fish will die, dont even try.
@foamandlizards91606 жыл бұрын
Expanding foam is not water proof. Even with a few layers of grout and epoxy resin it's hard to make it so. My advise would be to silicone in some glass and put rocks to it to make it natural. If you take your time, it will become beautiful:)
@JMViidz6 жыл бұрын
Can I please have the brand names for the silicone and expanding foam as this is something I’m really interested in doing. Also amazing look keep up the good work
@foamandlizards91606 жыл бұрын
Hey man, the expanding foam is just a cheap one from the hardware store. You can use wichever you want, as long as it had dried up for like two weeks or so. I actually don't use silicone here, but if you mean the glue it's "polymax" from Bison. The thing that I used for the background is called Epoxy resin. Good luck!:)
@salocin31936 жыл бұрын
JMViidz if you’re in the States, run to any Home Depot and get GE silicone type 1. They’ll definitely have it
