I can't thank you enough. We came home tonight in our ford and found the alarm in my Bug going off in the garage couldn't make it stop. noticed the light flashing on one of the fobs and figured out that the panic button somehow was stuck on. Had to disconnect the Beetle battery ran in the house watched your video took out the battery on the sick fob hooked up the Beetle battery again and all was OK. I'll get that Fob checked tomorrow! Thanks again.

No problem! It may not be the key fob though. Volkswagen door sensors can fail after a while, causing the alarm to trigger. Mine would do that from time to time.

Do you know how to fix that at home.? Mine started doing that yesterday & the alarm keeps going off

Thank you very much for the clear explanation. I did it at first time and you helped me a lot! It was clear how to separete the up and bottom part, but then I stopped and did not find any mark to split the half into two pieces (2nd separation). Then I found this video. At the side I used a mini crowbar (wider than a screwdriver appr. 10,5 mm wide) and it worked. Thumbs up! :)

Thank you! My 2009 Scirocco 2.0 TDI would not unlock. Thought I would change the battery in key fob. Followed another video for '2009 onwards Scirocco' only to find the key fob was different. My key fob matches the fob in this video. Knowing I had the same key gave me the confidence to apply more pressure to open up. All sorted in a couple of minutes and tested out OK. I have had my Scirocco for 14 years and 136,000 miles now and have not had to change the battery before. Think I should complain to VW 🤣.

Thank you so much for this video tutorial. I purchased a used Passat and the key never worked. I was gonna take it to the dealer, but only God knows how much they would have charged me to do something so simple. 5 minutes of my time and $1, and I'm good to go. Once again, thank you. :-)

At $158 per hour of "labor", I would want that job. It's like they're obstetricians. Labor. Right. The last time I took my older VW to the dealership, there was a woman in the customer waiting area. The Service Advisor called her to tell her she needed to have a light bulb replaced on her car. The anticipated charge: $65.00.

Thank you for the video. I was having trouble with my remote fob, and I needed to read the FCC ID reference numbers, which is why I tuned to your video. Then, while I had the first part open, I decided to put in a fresh battery CR2032, which turned out to be missing from my battery "inventory". I'm one of those who doesn't like to wait until a battery operated device conks out before buying a battery for it. Anyway, while I looked, my VW fob sat without the battery inserted. When I reassembled the fob and tried it, it had corrected itself. Prior to that, it would not unlock the car. It would just lock it. Computerized gadgets are wonderful, but they can go bat$#÷+ for no apparent reason. At times like that, walking up to your car to put the key in the doorlock doesn't seem like such an inconvenience.

The sprung action of my flip key got weaker & weaker over time, often failing to hold in the closed position. So being shown how to dismantle the key fob and add spring tension was really useful. But my key had other problems. The three small arms on the opening button were sticking in the guide holes, stopping it popping out fully. Some sandpapering and cleaning up old gunge was required, along with three twists on the spring. Now working like new, so a big thanks for your inspiring video.

As for your seized door lock... Sometimes you can get a good quality penetrating oil which will unseize the lock. But if it's too bad, it'll need to be replaced. Friend of mine ordered a new lock assembly for his and I believe it was about $100 from the dealer. Now for reprogramming your key fob, you will need a working lock. You can use the lock on your hatch or if they're both seized, you can in behind the lock and push the micro switch manually.

Great video!! Thanks for doing it. FWIW...I had trouble with the immobilizer kicking in (i.e. shutting down the engine) even though I moved the RFID chip to my new FOB. I don't know if it was coincidence but in the end I made sure the cleaner enough of the RFID chip (the one that was more clear) was the closest to the dash (via how I arranged it in the case) and suddenly I had no more problems.

@dntcd The spring should clip in the button mark of the key. There is a tab which sticks past the outside diameter of the spring(shown at the pics in the end of the video), that part goes into the plastic casing.

You can swap the parts directly over with no problems at all... The worst case scenario would be you having to reprogram the fob, which can be done yourself. Just make sure that one of your door key locks do work and aren't seized. But this only applies if your vehicle forgets the coat for that key fob. You most likely won't have any issues though.

@brightbr I believe you can buy just the buttons on Ebay. You would have to remove the circuit board itself by cutting away the little plastic nubs in the corner holes on the circuit it. After you would have to glue the circuit board back in.

@scottgitech Thank you for the comment! It's just a small chip that slides into a slot in the plastic casing. I believe you can just pop it out and transfer it to the new casing.

Yea. Mine looks very similar but that central seam doesn’t follow al the way around. It’s definitely only half way (the back non button side)
