Hi Blushed Design! I came across your video trying to create my own wax seals for my new business. I work ALOT with polymer clay so naturally this is right up my alley. I noticed that you are using sculpey 3 which might be why your pieces are breaking. The polymer used in sculpey 3 is better suited for small added details rather than large pieces. Try sculpey premo, not only will that increase the longevity of your wax seals, it also holds fine imprints much better. Sculpey 3 is a little too soft and likes to expand a bit while baking. ​@@katrinacrouch Hi, you're also supposed to bake it for 15 minutes per 1/4 inch of thickness, not 15 minutes total. So your stamp probably should have been baked for 45 mins to an hour or more! Just thought I'd point that out :) Even sculpey 3 is strong enough to push into melted wax and should never crumble like that when fully cured. But it's true that Premo and Fimo are much better brands! When using polymer clay, I find that watching a tutorial on the basics is the best way to go before using :)

A good idea for making unique stamps. To aid 'reverse text' the writing can be done on tracing paper, turned over onto stamp, and lightly pricked out with a pin before carving with a tooth pick. Thanks.

Good morning! Really nice video. Thank you. 1) Would using hot glue instead of sealing wax be user-friendly with the Sculpty Clay embosser? 2) Would applying a mask such as baby oil on the face of the embosser be appropriate for an easier release from the hot glue? 3) Why is there such a short life span for this type of embosser? 4) Dreams come true. 5) Blessings.

1- Hot glue should work with this technique! 2- you could try the mask but it might compromise the “stamp” by getting it wet. Worth a try though! 3- this clay isn’t designed to last like engraved brass does. It’s easy to try and explore but the same reason for the ease contributes to the short life span. 4- agreed 😉

Interesting...I heard you say these probably wouldn't last forever and I'm trying to come up with something that could last. I'm thinking that I could probably use this technique to make a mold. After baking, I'd need to reverse it by probably making an impression in soft clay and then pouring resin into the impression. Once the resin sets, I should be able to pick the clay out of the resin and have a solid stamp that I could epoxy a dowel rod handle to... If I ever wanted to make copies, I could then stamp the resin stamp into soft clay and pour in new resin.

That would work well as long as the resin doesn’t remelt when it’s against something hot (I have never worked with resin)

If you have it on hand, I would say that it’s worth a shot! But in my experience, air dry clay is more brittle. Even the oven baked clay will deteriorate with each use. Let me know if it works!

I tried making a stamp using this method. Did the first stamp, and it came out perfectly, but after that, the wax kept getting stuck between the grooves of the stamp ;-; I dont know how to clean it properly without damaging the stamp that I made...

They definitely aren’t designed to last forever! Try using a needle or a sharp pencil to gently agitate the wax OR you can warm the wax back up a touch over the flame (not touching the flame or too hot) and blot carefully with a tissue.

I'm using a kids play clay. How much time should I keep the wax in the oven? The timings and temperatures are same??

Oh no! Don't assume anything that you are using is exactly like what I used unless you are using the exact same clay. Most children's play clay is not intended to be baked, so you can either google the specific brand or purchase what I used. I ONLY recommend using clay that is intended to be baked or harden

You can try it If it is a type that gets rock hard! The concern is that it will melt when it touches the hot wax or break. It needs to be super hard to stay together after stamping (you can see that even mine started slowing falling apart after each stamp)

i've never made these but i think you just need to make sure it dries. i accidentally bought kids' clay one time instead of polymer and it melted in the oven and didnt harden in air. good luck though!

Well, playdoh does get pretty hard so it’s worth a shot! I have never tried it personally. As Rainy Reverie says, “make sure it dries”!

You can try! But make sure the variety you are using dried rock hard or it will melt, get stuck to the wax or break down

Yes it does! Hot glue isn’t as strong, so I don’t recommend it for sending in the mail, but definitely works for “playing” or scrapbooking, etc

Sale dough might work… you need something that gets super super hard-like, rock hard! The softer it is, the fewer stamps you will be able to make out of it before it breaks down
