This video is exactly what I was looking for, thank you SO much! I’ve been looking at “you floral” as an option to DIY my roses.. they don’t have Soul or Playa Blanca varieties but they do have quick sand and sweet Eskimo.. do you think these would work? Thank you!

Quicksand is one of my favorites, and I love Eskimo but they are a smaller rose, about half the size of a soul or Playa. If you need help sourcing flowers, please email me at diy@petalsavvy.com and I'll see if i can help.

I've been looking for this exact tutorial. My daughter wants this bridal bouquet just with some rose leaves left on the top of the stems. Wondering if you have any tips on adding the some baby's breath to the bridesmaid's bouquets.

Maybe about 20 minutes, and just have a towel to dry the stems

I cant fund soul roses near me. Would Quicksand work for this? Or would mondial be better? I like the off white/off pink looks. Also, if I'm getting married on a Sunday, and want to do the reflexing on the Saturday, what day should I purchase the flowers for? Do we reflex as soon as they arrive or should we let them sit and naturally open for a few days before we reflex?
@petalsavvy8463
@petalsavvy8463 Жыл бұрын
If you want more of a blush-nude, I recommend quicksand. You also can get away with just spinning them and not have to reflex because they open nicely on their own! :) I recommend receiving and processing your flowers (remove all the leaves and thorns) on Thursday for a Sunday wedding.
@rebeccabahar3754
@rebeccabahar3754 Жыл бұрын
@Petal Savvy thanks for the reply! Would you spin them on the Saturday or when I process them on Thursday? Also, I keep hearing that they need to be a little dehydrated/old to reflex nicely. Should I still be storing the flowers in water from Thursday-Sunday?
@petalsavvy8463
@petalsavvy8463 Жыл бұрын
They shouldn't be old or dehydrated!!! They should be left out at room temperature, in water (make sure to remove leaves first, then cut the end of the stem at an angle, then place in water within 16-18 seconds after that cut) for a couple of days. They need to be a little open already to reflex nicely. If anything, you could remove from water maybe an hour or so before reflexing to soften the petals, but you don't want the stems to go limp, it's risky business! I posted a video on getting nice big roses, I would recommend checking that out. But as for quicksand, you will be pleasantly surprised how much they open overnight, and they will be even prettier by Saturday. Spin them as you design, select your flowers, spin, design that piece. Wash rinse repeat.

I love this video so so much! Thank you for sharing:) In your opinion, would you recommend Vendela and Tibet roses for reflexing?
@petalsavvy8463
@petalsavvy8463 2 жыл бұрын
I don't like vendella anymore, basically. And Tibet is SO BIG and blow open on their own. If you want to reflex, try soul or Playa Blanca, hands down.

Can I do this the day before my wedding or will the flowers bruise ? I’m really scared since I’ve practice with grocery flowers for now and they always bruise or die really fast.
@petalsavvy8463
@petalsavvy8463 Жыл бұрын
I always make the day before. Grocery store roses are not the best quality, you have to get the right kind of rose that likes to reflex. I definitely recommend ordering from a wholesaler. If you're doing white, order Playa Blanca, ivory- order Soul. Not recommend for reflecting is Tibet or vendella or akito. Eskimo are OK but they're smaller.

Amazing video thank you! If I would like to make arrangements and bouquets with the reflex method how far in advance can I do this and not compromise the roses? Is the day before ok?
@petalsavvy8463
@petalsavvy8463 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah! I made these on Friday for a Saturday wedding. Reflexing generally doesn't damage the petals. You may notice slight creases on white roses such as these, and the "sacrificial" ones on the inner layer may bruise slightly but no one is looking up into the stems like that and before delivering or photos you can remove any obviously sad petals. :)

Hi just wondering why you don't wire your roses? Do you think it is unnecessary? Thanks Amy 😊
@petalsavvy8463
@petalsavvy8463 Жыл бұрын
Hi Amy, for most roses with a nice hardy stem it isn't necessary. If you're using a garden rose or something with a larger head and a thin stem, I would wire, but with these, we don't need to. I keep my bouquets in water for delivery, tell them to keep them in water except for photos and the ceremony. Never had any issues. If you live in a super hot and dry climate, I think it might be good.

@@petalsavvy8463 thank you so much for the reply. Wiring is sooooo time consuming. The weather is quite unseasonably cool here at the moment. Definitely won't wire the table centrepieces but may still do the brides bouquet. Thanks Amy 😊🌷

Hi! Would avalanche roses work well for this look too?
@petalsavvy8463
@petalsavvy8463 2 жыл бұрын
I don't personally care for them, I would recommend Tibet or Mondial for a more easily available rose. Tibets open very quickly(can get Thursday for Saturday), Mondial take a couple more days to open (get Tuesday) :)

I'm a professional designer and we source our flowers from all over the world. If you are a DIYer and looking on the best places to source your flowers, I would recommend starting local and seeing if any of your wholesalers also work direct with the public. If not, I offer consulting and ordering, or you can look at ordering from fifty flowers or companies such as flower moxie.
