Building a dead cat wind muff for a Tascam DR-40 recorder, but applicable to most other models. The total cost for the wind muff is under a dollar and it takes about 10 minutes to build one.

By far one of the best DIY video on youtube. The only tip I'd like to add is that instead of a foam I just used a Koozie. I got it for $0.99 at a dollar store. It worked great. Hope my tip doesn't take away anything from this vide. I followed the instructions and my results were astonishingly perfect. Thanks again!

Did you use the thick Koozie or the thin one?

Fantastic suggestion! I had a couple koozies just sitting around that worked perfectly for my Portacapture X8!

Confirming how easy it is to make these at home. Thank you for the tutorial! I had similar idea but microfiber and small plastic frame instead of foam.

Thank you. I recently bought a DR40 and was looking for windsock - they cost almost or more than the recorder! Therefore, I started looking for this type of video. I agree with @soldforfree, this is one the best DIY videos on KZbin. Its instructions are clear, concise and effective!

if anyone is interested, i have used fake fur and tested it and made a clear sample video with different scenarios. this is proof that it really does work en the guy above is telling you some good information !!👍 although i made mine in a hurry and it doesnt look the same it just works like you hope it would.

Thanks very much for a very well produced video - visual and sound and of course the idea. I wish it was mandatory viewing for youtube producers to watch [sadly only 7,104 views to date] as so many would benefit from this info before they start shooting with their uncovered microphone pointed into or across the wind source. Still we are the 7,000 informed and thank you for doing it so well :)

Because i am such a leasy Men, i got the Idea in watching your nice Video: I was going to my Clothes, take a old Winter Cotton S.ock and put them over the Tascam DR-07MKII in few (tree) Layers. After this i try a Recording outside on my Balkony: No more Windnoise at all. It was working satisfied for me. Greetings Peter

The windmuff for DR07 probably could be made in a similar manner, you just need to make the foam strips wider to account for the widening shape of the recorder.

Thank you very much for your video. Have made a perfect deadcat for my dr 40. For a frame I used a piece of a self-adhesive insulation strip from the nearest rubber shop. So, I even didn't need to glue the fur fabric as it sticked firm and easy. Thanks again.

Useful and well planned video. Could you tell me how I can merge sound track from Tascam on to the camcorder as you do in the test? Do you just stop the cam and connect to Tascam and then restart the cam?

can you use a beer can for the frame if you cut the beer can and use some inch or 2 thick foam as a substitute for the fur ?

Would it work in A/B mode?
@britcom16 жыл бұрын
I think you would need to make it wider at the top to avoid the mics touching the fabric for A/B mode.
